Warners Bros. has decided to reboot Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a new motion picture scripted by an unknown writer with no involvement by Joss Whedon. I’ve made my views clear: NOOoooOOOooOOOooOO! BOO on the reboot! But what do others of my tweeps and peeps think? Has the time come to reboot Buffy?
YES
EnnisDL: People had the same reactions to the Star Trek film and the BSG reboot. Give the Buffy reboot a chance before hating it.
LordComet: hey as long as we have another wonderful strong female hot lady i am all for it=)
mackmm: I’d say let the audience decide, but as long as the right people keep getting paid remakes will still happen.
maximkovalenko: I’ve NEVER liked Joss Whedon, so not having him involved can only improve it in my eyes.
NapiersNews: I like the idea. I never watched the show & only saw the original. There have been a lot of improvements in tech & special fx
renkris: Well, to be fair, they’re rebooting the MOVIE franchise. [At least give them a chance to Be successful / f**k up horribly BEFORE any judgment. It’s only fair.] Reboots, in essence, are simply a “safe bet” from a financial standpoint due to an established fanbase. And there ARE some that rise above and beyond this base requirement, true, but the initial hope is for fans/haters to watch it. Either way, some form of profit is guaranteed.
Zurph: looking forward to seeing a new version of Buffy. I myself am curious as well. And, maybe she’ll do a good job of it.
NO
anglhededhpster: that’s just crazy talk!
Ballardgirl1: I gave the doctor who reboot many chances before disliking it. I like matt smith though.
Brian Knox: Buffy minus Joss=Brian not see.
cybeam1: That will be the most hated project in film history!
Dalanna23: i find a reboot of it an insult to the original movie and series. I think ppl should start poking ppl with these bad ideas. the original buffy movie came out when i yas 9. It holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorites.
ghachey: ikr Buffy with no scooby gang or Mr whedon just makes no sense
Greg Lemons: Sounds like uh…what’s the word? Oh yeah. Crap.
Ironic_LastName: In this new era of crappy Vampire content thanks to a certain Ms. Meyer, I am dreading this.
jomartin26 @actionchick: Complete thumbs down. I wouldn’t let a clueless non musician re-write Crossroads. Horrible idea.
Kanu Digit: The Buffy series started from crap and so it shall return to crap–
m_buggie: frankly, I don’t see the point. Why reboot at all? Why not attempt a – stay with me now – new and/or original idea?
mikekarv: The original movie was bad. But it was the Scooby Gang that made the show. These people are going to embarrass themselves
neiltring: it is indeed a dark day in wheedonverse
Nfc Jd: f*** that its blasphemy
Josh Brown: I share your sentiment. No Joss = no dice. The woman that came up with this claims to be a fan of the show, but if she truly was she’d know just how unacceptable this is. I kind of feel sorry for her and all the flak she’s been catching from… real fans since this news broke, but at the same time I don’t want to see some random woman’s Buffy fan fiction get full-blown movie treatment. It’s ridiculous to think this will work. WB says that Buffy has an active fan base hungry for more? Yeah. We are. Hungry for more Joss Whedon-driven material.
Nfc Jd: I don’t feel remotely sorry for her. She deserves the flak, I hope she feels enough shame and apprehension to shut up and cancel the project
PippaD: Down with people remaking stuff that was already made when I was alive. Boo Hiss.
scooterchicken: a reboot of Buffy would be like redoing the second three SW movies w/o Lucas. Wait. No. That WOULD be a good thing.
RocketLLama: BOO BUFFY REBOOT W/O WHEDON BOO
Ryan Marshall: Its more the fact that this movie is unneccesary as Buffy is very much still going strong as a comic continuation. It would be good to have a movie that adds to the series instead of starting it up again.
Samuel F. Moultrie: BLASPHEMY!!!
Samuel F. Moultrie: I’ve summarized my feelings into this Haiku. Enjoy.
Buffy without Joss
Is sun without heat or light
Reboot will suck ass
sjkish: I wont even acknowledge that they are making another Buffy – the reboot is gonna blow chunks
Nfc Jd: good one Sam!
Steven E Gordon: huge mistake…alienate the Buffy fans by not including Joss
TommyECash: Yeah, there’s a POSSIBILITY of goodness, but highly unlikely since they’re going with unknown writer instead of Whedon. One bad movie’s already made it hard to explain to people why the show’s good. A bigger TWILIGHT-ier movie isn’t gonna help.
Tweek_Robles: I know!! Completely Depressed LOL And Joss not to happy! RT @actionchick: Buffy reboot movie w/o Joss or Scooby gang? NOOoooOOOooOOOooOO!
WorkSuxAlot: Do you think that Whedon trending for a day is a clue for the studio that the new Buffy will fail? Will they continue w/ film? I’m sad about the reBOOt. Are there any turncoats on the project?
wyldride: I was saying reBOO-urnst. Joss should do Angel film&open against reBOOt. Then reboot Batman. Probably won’t even have homeless Pike. Really, Y not just do a different thing? RT @actionchick Buffy reboot movie w/o Joss or Scooby gang?
wyldride: Another opinion: http://twitpic.com/3e403k
Tara_Jen: Anytime I hear about the Buffy “reboot” I feel SOOOOOOO sick.
RhondaTipton: I say no Joss, no Buffy.
pinkchic: There is no point it just wont work unless Joss is involved
MAYBE
ikaiyoo: depends on the movie spiderman, fantastic 4, the punisher, blade, judge dread…. Yes. Total recall, the karate kid, etc… No.
JSolis82: I like the Kristy Swanson/Buffy movie. If the reboot is a horror comedy, it might work. No Whedon means No Dollhouse (yuck).
JustinWHedges: the lack of Whedon is just a concern. I even gave Superman IV a chance.
Michael Potter: They will have to shine very brightly to top Wheadon. I’m talkin J.J.Abrams bright.
neiltring: I dont think anyone sees the point other than the movie studios. It could work with someone who is respectful to the universe Joss built
SOME DEBATE
OnyxSparrow: @EnnisDL Vampires have saturated the market ATM. a Buffy Reboot is just to get more cash after being buried by the mainstream.
EnnisDL: If done well, is that wrong? “@OnyxSparrow: Buffy Reboot is just to get more cash after being buried by the mainstream.” @actionchick
OnyxSparrow: Yes, it takes more than 7 years for nostalgia to kick in and demand a re-booting.
adamreisinger: the harm is in damaging a property that is still thriving in comic form
EnnisDL: You don’t know that for sure. Star Trek sans Roddenberry was a win for years “@OnyxSparrow: Buffy without Whedon, fail.” @actionchick
OnyxSparrow: @EnnisDL But Gene helped create the modern setting for TGN and DS9. After that… yeah Star Trek DID start to suck.
OnyxSparrow : @EnnisDL @actionchick Example: Scream 4 including cast and director, Win. Buffy without Whedon, fail. MORE THOUGHTS ON REBOOTS
mikekarv: Sometimes needed, mostly not RT @actionchick: Movie reboots: Good, bad, or ugly? Sometimes needed or always evil?
MovieCynics: sometimes, as is the case with Batman & James Bond, reboots are needed.
neiltring: Reboots are needed when franchises run stale (Batman) but aren’t needed when films are still classic (Total Recall, Robin Hood)
OnyxSparrow: I am opposed to the rebooting of ANYTHING that’s done out of a sheer lack of creativity or a try at cashing in on a trend.
Here BeGeeks: isn’t it ironic (AND YET TOTALLY RIGHT) that everyone now assumes the series is the original, and not the boring first movie?
FROM OUR BUFFY VILLAINESSES
ClareBerry (Clare Kramer, Glory Glorificus in season 5): Oh how I wish this whole Buffy Reboot announcement was in April… How fun would it be to announce that I love the idea! #AprilFools #btvs
JulietLandau (Juliet Landau, the vampire Drusilla): Buffy movie reboot without Joss. So uncool. 🙁
JulieBenz (Julie Benz, a.k.a. the vampire Darla): never have truer words been tweeted!!!! RT @jennyandteets I will only say this once. Without Joss, there is no Buffy!

Topic: Nevermore and Fanboy asked their YouTube viewers for their thoughts on the matter. Fanboy was not a fan of the idea (“I don’t understand why they’re doing this; I really wish they weren’t”) and Nevermore tells us, “ALOT of comments against it. no surprise.”

Post: Assemble the troops, we have a demon to fight
by Molly Jackson: “As a member of this “active fan base”, I just want to say this is not what I want. This is not what my fellow Buffy fans want. We want our slayer to be continued by her creator, Joss Whedon. This is the same person that is continuing the Buffy character right now in comics. Did they miss that?”

Post: No Buffy Without Joss!
by Terri-Lynn Macartney: “I guarandamntee you I am far from the only Buffy-addict out there who watches the entire series on DVD at least once per annum. Buffy is still fresh in our collective Whedonconscious – please let the record show, I just invented that word – and in no way, shape, or form does Buffy ‘need to be reinvigorated’…”

Pingback: Rocket Llama HQ - » Buffy the Vampire Slayer ReBOOt: Your Reactions
It’s just a money grab, It is quite sad. If I remember correctly Joss doesn’t have the film rights which is why they can exclude him. I hate the whole ideal.
well, if it’s bad, then they were idiots. If the movie is great, the this could be epic. However, I love the buffy from the tv show so much… i’ll be sad to see someone else… and what about Angel or spike… you can’t replace them!!!!
I feel sad.
@blahtherr cool music, it just doesn’t fit with a guy walking around. I wonder what it’s from?
I precisely wanted to thank you very much yet again. I’m not certain the things that I might have undertaken without those secrets discussed by you relating to such area of interest. It actually was the hard issue for me personally, but understanding a new professional mode you dealt with that forced me to leap for fulfillment. I will be grateful for the guidance and pray you know what a great job you happen to be undertaking teaching others all through your blog. I know that you’ve never come across all of us.
Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog, I wanted to say that its really well written Ive enjoyed browsing it. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon! But not on my iPhone as the layouts a bit off!
Why reboot something that is great on it’s own? you can’t have Buffy without the people that MADE the show what it is today. And without Whedon, it doesn’t stand a chance. So, no, leave Buffy alone!
