Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day Prop Giveaway WINNERS – So Who Wants This Tombstone in Their Living Room?

Sean Patrick Flanery wears prize props.

A few months ago, Sony Pictures created the opportunity for me to give away props from the vigilante movie Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (2009). With the Boondock Saints movies so near and dear to my heart, I said, “Heck, yeah, I’d like to.” My review of the original film, The Boondock Saints (1999), was already the #1 most read article on this website and usually still is. I had already interviewed members of the cast and had recently attended the sequel’s Dallas premiere. Surreal moment of that night: walking downstairs right after watching the movie right when its two leading men coming walking upstairs.

So I announced the giveaway, offering to give props away based on people’s answers to the vague topic, “Vigilante Movies – Good, Bad, Right, Wrong.”

Simply compiling the responses took a long, long time. To make sure we didn’t miss any of the hundreds of responses, we had to look through thousands of tweets people had directed my way during the contest period. During that time, everyone finally found out that I was the winner of G4TV’s Next Woman of the Web competition and I got to help RedCarpetCrash.com’s Devin Pike conduct a Q&A session with one of the Saints, Sean Patrick Flanery himself, at January’s Dallas Comic-Con. Devin assures me the video from that session will get posted online.

The other Saint, Norman Reedus who played Sean’s gun-toting, rope-tangling fraternal twin brother in both films, agreed to judge the answers. However, as Saints fans should well appreciate, Sean and Norman have been busy, busy promoting the sequel’s theatrical run, special theatrical showings of the original, and the sequel’s DVD release in addition to promoting The Beatnicks and so much else.

My crew whittled the hundreds of answers down to several pages, and then these judges selected their top ten. They didn’t agree with each other at all, but collectively they gave us a reasonable number to pass along to Norman.

Semi-Final Judges

Bobby Bless of www.moviecynics.com, has gotten my help with contests of his own before, so this time I called upon him.

FilmBadgers from Reelz Channel’s Movie Mob.

Coop Cooper of smalltowncritic.com was one of the few guest writers this site ever had (“Why Manly Men Love Action Flick Chicks”) because I’m territorial that way.

There are so many other good friends and great bloggers I could have called upon – and sometime probably will.

Final Judge: Boondock Saints Star Norman Reedus

Norman loved the answers. “There’s a lot of good ones, I think.” He had seen the long list, so he wasn’t just talking about the final ten when he said that. He was also impressed with the fans’ tattoos which we’d shown in one of the posts. “Ha, that is awesome!  High five from me.”

I’ve already notified the people who get the three top prizes. However, you’ll find some more listed below who won’t know before this article posts.

And the winners are…

The grand prize goes to J. D., whom I had trouble tracking down. Once I got in touch with him, he raised some privacy issues, so I had to wait while he deleted and then re-created his twitter account, I waited some more while he picked his prize and then changed his mind, and then he kept changing contact information. Anyway, here’s the winning tweet.

@JDonDragon: BDSI best vigilante b/c they truly take matters into their own hands. They are barely provoked, no revenge motive, just pure bad guy ass kicking because they are capable of doing it, and no one else will, including the law. Awesome!

Second place winner Sally picked a couple of Bushmills bottles that got used in the movie. As I recall, this was actually a two- or three-part tweet.

@AurRhudd: Several fictional vigilantes make the world feel safer – Batman and the McManus Brothers fall amongst these. In reality, you might not want two random guys running around taking the law into their own hands, but in the story itself, it works perfectly. Other vigilante films that make you wish the guys were real: Dirty Harry, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen.

Third place winner Kayla gets a Jesus bobblehead. I don’t have a photo of it, though.

@MissxMeep: @ActionChick #BDS Coooontest submission…kinda. http://tiredinnocence.livejournal.com/4586.html

Fourth place winner Kimberly gets either these wall hangings or a rosary – her choice.

@Kimberline1: @actionchick worst Death Wish Charles Bronson going around beating up and killing bad guys that are between half his age to 1/4 of his age. best vigilante movie is BDS cause i have my stupid f*cking rope

Fifth place winner Justin gets whichever item the fourth place winner turns down.

@jwiemer: @actionchick #BDS2 Batman has money, The Bride has swords, and The Boondock Saints have guns. Put them together and: god save us all

And for answering trivia questions right or otherwise promoting the giveaway, the following folks get some other goodies

Rosary: I always said I was keeping one of the rosaries for myself for conducting all this. As was previously announced@veritasfaith gets a rosary for answering a Boondock Saints trivia question right.

Posters: For answering Saints trivia correctly and quickly, several earned themselves some Saints II posters – @astreastar, @VeganVita, @CASEYinRealLife, @AJavaJunky. Two more poster recipients were randomly selected from those who entered and/or promoted the giveaway – @loveygoo, @Trihaly.

Addendum (after Comic-Con): Prop rosaries for @MissxMeep and @veritasfaith weren’t mailed immediately so I could get pics of Sean wearing their beads when I saw him at San Diego Comic-Con International in July. This was my second time to interview Sean, who recognizes me best by the name “Action Flick Chick.” Mark Walters of BigFanBoy.com and Official Pix has the video for right now. I’ll post the interview probably the next time Sean has something to promote which seems right for me to share with you.
