Single-Shot Interviews: Worst Superpower, Celebrity Takes

Posted By Action Flick Chick on August 3, 2009

Since I posed the question “What is the worst superpower to have?” on the site to get your feedback, I also thought my team and I would see what some celebrities at San Diego Comic-Con International ’09 would have to say. Respondents varied in how they interpreted “worst” with regard to whether it meant most inconvenient, annoying, debilitating, pointless, or evil and whether that meant worst for themselves, other people, or absolutely everybody. Check out what they had to say. Although celebrity judge Adam West has picked the winner who gets my prize package of Comic-Con swag, the question is still open for responses.

What would be the worst superpower?

Sean Patrick Flanery (actor – Boondock Saints I + II): The Midas touch, everything you touch would turn to gold. Or the Medusa power. It would be a very lonely life.

Gil Gerard (actor – Buck Rogers in the 25th Century): Flatulence. Forget about being able to smash through walls. ‘Woo-hoo, I can clear a room!’

Virginia Hey (actress – Farscape, E Street): The ability to see people naked.

Adam Baldwin (actor – Firefly, Chuck): I think the ability to read minds. You don’t want to know what’s on people’s minds. You don’t want to know what other people are thinking about you.

Naoko Mori (actress – Torchwood): I think it’s actually one of the things my character had on Torchwood which was to be able to listen to people’s thoughts. It sounds great but in reality I think there’s certain things you shouldn’t hear. Certain information, it’s too much.

Arthur Suydam (artist – Marvel Zombies): The ability to read minds actually.

Jack O’Halloran (actor – Superman II): Laser eyes. It gets you in a lot of trouble. You can see through things. Laser eyes – it was dangerous.

Steve Bryant (artist – Athena Voltaire): Intermittent bleeding.

Jimmy the Muscle (bodyguard – Electric Milk Creations, BlindWolf Studios): Cropdusting. A guy released the beast in our cab. It was awful.

Art Baltazar (cartoonist – Electric Milk Creations, BlindWolf Studios): Actually the worst power would probably be to have a giant penis. A real big one like seven foot long would be horrible.

Reggie Bannister (actor – Phantasm): The worst evil power to have - CEO of Sony Universal.

Tommy “Tiny” Lister (actor - Friday, The Dark Knight): The worst superpower to have is not to know Jesus Christ!

Virgil (professional wrestler -  WWE) – I don’t even know.

Adrian Paul (Highlander: The Series and films) stuck for words at Comic-Con.

Adrian Paul (actor – Highlander): I have no idea.

David Abramowitz (producer/writer – Highlander, War of the Worlds: Goliath): (regarding Adrian Paul’s answer) Unless I wrote it, he doesn’t know what to say.

Peter Wingfield (actor – Highlander): The ability to turn into a chicken.

Kane Hodder (actor – multiple Friday the 13th films): I think that the power to give people diarrhea would be devastating. You look at them like that and they go, ’Oh god, I gotta go.’ (We agreed that using this power against Jason Voorhees wouldn’t slow the hockey-masked killer down.) No, he s***s himself all the time.

Carrot Top treats the question as seriously as it deserves.

Scott “Carrot Top” Thompson (comedian – Chairman of the Board, Gene Simmons: Family Jewels):  To make Carrot Top disappear. Don’t make me disappear!

David Hayter (actor – Guyver: Dark Hero; voice actor - Metal Gear Solid; screenwriter -  X-Men, The Scorpion King) : Uncontrollable flatulence. I don’t know if that’s a superpower or not. I should have thought of something better than that.

Lou Ferrigno (actor – The Incredible Hulk): No discipline.

Adam West (actor – Batman, The Family Guy): Probably no sense of balance. That would really do ‘em in, don’t you think?

And for the final word on what the worst superpower must be, the Chick went straight to the source by asking ”The Man” who invented so many superpowers and superpowered characters…

Stan Lee (writer – Marvel Comics; producer – Who Wants to Be a Superhero?; list without end): The ability to hiccup anytime you feel like it. It wouldn’t do you a bit of good!

Yeah, that’s right! I got to meet and talk to Stan Lee!

Awesome. I had no idea you interviewed THAT many people about the worst superpower ever. 22 celebs and assorted industry people and my worst superpower is still the best. I mean… worst.
