San Diego Comic Con 2010: The Expendables Panel

The one panel at San Diego Comic Con that I was hell bent on going to, other than my own panel, was the panel about The Expendables! In attendance were Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Steve Austin, with a special appearance by Bruce Willis, who was there already to promote his upcoming film, RED. All the guys were joking with each other and were in good spirits making for a very fun panel. It was my favorite panel by far.

The Expendables take the stage in part 1 of the video. Special guest Bruce Willis surprises everyone, even the Expendables themselves, by coming out on stage. Stallone discusses how Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Stallone came to be in the same scene together. Dolph talks about which film hurt most to film: Rocky IV or The Expendables. See it all in the video below.

Part 2 reveals who had their neck broken by whom during filming and the reactions by each person. Stallone discusses why he chose not to shoot the film in 3-D, and more!

In part 3, Stallone discusses who else he talked to about being in The Expendables, about how the cast would often mumble profanity under their breath when egos clashed, and explains why he likes directing more.

One thing that I don’t think was caught in my footage was Austin talking about how scary it really was to film this movie and how he felt like he spent the whole movie running from explosions! I’ve seen the film, and now I know that is definitely a true statement. One of Austin’s most difficult scenes to film was when he was supposed to be running from some explosions and the detonator for the explosions was pushed a little to quickly. Austin was very close and got knocked back by the explosion. He said, “I think I just got blown up!” However, he said the only reason he didn’t stop was because he knew that he would probably land on another “g** d*** bomb”. So he kept running to actually save his life! And they said all of this happened before Stallone’s neck was broken. Hmm…
