Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

The Halloween special scary movie/action movie review continues with Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Nothing says good old fashioned scary zombie movie like having two hot women kick some zombie ass. This is another of my favorite zombie movies. There are lots of explosions, head shots, and weird zombified animals to keep you entertained. This time the eye candy is two women, Milla Jovovich and Sienna Guillory. As a zombie, I would gladly let one of them take me down, if you know what I mean. After seeing the whole Resident Evil trilogy, it is weird to see Jovovich in a commercial for something like lip stick or make up of some sort. I always feel like she should be drop kicking the lip stick and breaking its neck instead of smiling and swearing that it lasts all night. What is that about?

Time until zombie related action: ~ 6 minutes

Guys getting killed (Bad guys): Zombies and Umbrella Corporation people

Best Line: Nemesis just took out about 13 S.T.A.R.S. employees at one time. L.J. (Mike Epps) looks at Nemesis and drops his guns and says, “Respect!” Also, another line for all you Resident Evil video game fans is anytime Nemesis says, “S.T.A.R.S.” You know people are about to die. Good stuff.

Best Kill: This one goes to Alice (Milla Jovovich). She breaks through the stained glass of a church on a motorcycle. Then she revs up the motorcycle and takes off down the aisle towards a licker. She does a back flip off the bike right when the licker jumps up and attacks it. Alice shoots the bike making it explode, killing the licker. Then, another one comes out of the shadows, this time Alice shoots the chains loose that is holding up a cross. The cross falls on the licker and pins it in place. Alice walks up to it calmly and blows its freakin’ head off. This all happens within a 2 minute time span. She’s got some balls.

Best Explosion: I don’t mean to spoil anything but… the city is nuked at the end of the movie in order to control the infection. This hands down wins the best explosion, I mean generally, if any kind of nuclear device is detonated in a movie it’s going to win best explosion. It’s hard to top a nuke.

Best Narrow Escape: Once again, Alice saves the day. Two zombified dogs are after Jill (Sienna Guillory) and the little kid. They are hiding in a kitchen at an elementary school, with the zombie dogs sniffing around for them. Jill turns on all the gas stoves, and she and the kid make a run for it. When they burst through the doors, Jill lights her last match and throws it back into the kitchen; however, the match goes out before igniting the gas. Enter: Alice. She throws in a lighter right when the dogs are about to pounce. Alice wraps a fire blanket around her and the kid in order to survive the explosion, while Jill just makes a run for it. The three of them (somehow) make it out alive from that explosion. The dogs weren’t quite so lucky.
