AMC’s The Walking Dead television show season one ended with a bang! Sunday night’s season finale incorporated more zombie action than the last and ended nicely. Well, not nicely for the characters cause they’re pretty much screwed, but ended at a good point in plot. Overall, I have really enjoyed the show. There are plenty of new characters and plot points that aren’t in the comic book, and they keep it interesting and keep ya guessing. One of the new characters, Daryl, is actually now my favorite. However, the show has felt like it’s the “Let’s go here, and then escape from there” show. They go to Atlanta, they escape from Atlanta. They go back to Atlanta, they escape from Atlanta again. I’m ready to see a little bit of something else, and hopefully season 2 will bring it.
Spoiler Alert!
Likes: Ending the show with a massive explosion, opening the show with a zombie action scene, all the gory zombie head shots, Daryl decapitating the zombie’s head with an ax, not too many casualties, and of course, The Dale Face.
It’s like the human equivalent to the Cupcake Dog.
Dislikes: Just getting to the CDC and then having to escape the CDC the next day, didn’t feel like a whole lot got accomplished plot-wise, not enough zombie action.
So what happens?
The whole group is allowed inside the CDC. There is only one doctor left in the entire facility, Dr. Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich). He shows them around, they all get hot showers, food, and then get drunk. Shane, in his drunken state, tries to talk to Lori about their relationship but ends up trying to force himself on her. She goes all Wolverine and claws him, leaving scratch marks on his neck.
The next day Dr. Jenner shows everyone images of what happens inside the brain as a person dies and becomes a zombie. They then find out that they have one hour left before the facility runs out of power and blows itself up. Dr. Jenner locks them in the facility with him. They convince him to let them go because they still want to fight for their lives. They all leave except Dr. Jenner, Andrea, and Jacqui who have given up on life. Dale convinces Andrea to leave right at the last second. As everyone leaves the building it blows up. The last shot is of everyone driving away…to the next place they can escape from.
This is the Action Flick Chick, and you’ve just been kicked in the ass!
i was waiting for your review, i like them a lot…so TS-19, at first i was like, they just talk?but the last part was thrilling, it made up for the first part…loved DAryl beheading action:), i agree, more zombie killing is required:))i think they should stop looking for salvation and just try to live their lives at the most, take care not to get bitten and kill as many zombies as they can:)…if all is lost they should not loose themselves:)
I liked the way things ended in season 1. I bet season 2 will be as thrilling as the first one was.
But I think they must look for salvation somewhere. Don’t see them walking around just killing zombies… there must be an ultimate goal to seek.
Pingback: Rocket Llama HQ - » The Walking Dead Season Finale Review!
I thoroughly enjoy your reviews because we notice similar plot development likes & dislikes. I did like this season finale, although it’s a sideline to the original storyline. Who doesn’t like Daryl’s line “Man I’m gonna get shit-faced drunk, again.” or him going ape hit on the door in the background with an ax then on a zombie’s head. I have big hopes for next season.
I wholeheartedly agree every episode can’t be “where are we escaping from this time”. Also not sure if anyone has noticed but EVERY episode I have had this feeling of: “who are they going to kill off this time.” They are down to what, 10 cast members now, so they better find new people to fill the ranks to kill off next season or I don’t know…maybe NOT kill people off & just have an action pack season. They’ve been killing zombies for awhile now so let’s see some zombie survival skills & go zombie hunting. And with fuel in short supply why are they driving so many vehicles? Ditch the gas guzzling jeep. I hope Morgan or Merle don’t follow that note to go to the CDC. Oh and I know people will hate me for pointing out this old chestnut but someone PLEASE tell Andrew Lincoln that when he plays Rick he does not have to CRY in EVERY freaken episode! Damn even when the dude was drunk in this recent epi he was shedding tears. We get it man, you can cry at a drop of a dime. BTW after they did the blood test thing in the epi I kinda got an idea as to what the doc told Rick before they took off *wink* *wink* All in all three quarters of the show had the blood pumping which is a good thing. I enjoyed the show & have high hopes the studio see’s this show has legs & invest more in it next season so there will be more zombie filled action….n’est-ce pas? Ohhhh, Tweek_Robles, you just made me realize what the doctor probably told Rick at the end of the show. I guess we’ll all have to wait and see though.
