WARNING: BIG TIME SPOILER ALERTS IN THIS REVIEW!
There was such an exciting episode last week that this week’s episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead is back to all talking…about one subject: Will they or won’t they kill the new kid? The episode lulls the audience into thinking nothing’s going to happen and then at the very end surprises them with a little tidbit of excitement – excitement that I will mourn over from now on. NOOOOOO! Let’s check in with Dale to get his thoughts.
Thanks, Dale!
Here’s What Happens!
Daryl tortures and beats up Randall to get information out of him. Turns out he’s in a group of 30 men who are heavily armed, with several who are rapists. Wooo, the best combination for a group. So Rick says they have to kill the kid.
Dale convinces Rick to let the group to decide what happens to Randall. He asks Andrea to guard the kid so that Shane doesn’t just kill him on a whim, and so he can talk to everyone and try to convince them not to kill Randall. While Andrea guards the kid, Shane appears and talks to her about throwing Rick in a room, locking the door, and taking his guns for a little while so that he can be in charge.
Dale talks to Daryl. and tells him he’s a decent man, to which Daryl responds by saying that the group is broken and his opinion doesn’t matter. Dale maintains that it does. He next tries Hershel, who, surprisingly, leaves the decision to Rick. Dale is striking out on finding someone to protect Randall. Then he talks to Shane. Again, shockingly, Shane agrees to do whatever the group decides because if the kid ends up killing someone, the blood will be on Dale’s hands.
Meanwhile, Carl seems to be mutating into a Damien-level cold-hearted little kid. He tells Carol that believing in heaven is stupid and they won’t ever see Sophia again. When Rick tells him to apologize, he questions him about if it’s right to kill Randall. Rick changes the subject and tells him to just apologize to Carol. So he ignores his father, finds a gun, and takes off walking in the woods, stumbling across a zombie stuck in the mud who he plays chicken with until the zombie gets free and he drops the gun and runs away.
Dale yells and screams to the whole group about how they aren’t any better than the group of 30 men they’re afraid of. He’s says if they kill Randall it will change the group and create a world that he doesn’t want to live in. Only Andrea changes her mind and agrees with Dale. All of the rest of them decide that Randall’s overstayed his welcome.
Dale takes a walk through the pasture while Rick, Shane, and Daryl go to take care of business. Right as Rick has the gun to Randall’s head, Carl walks in and tells his dad to shoot him and stands there to watch. Rick couldn’t do it after that so they decide to keep the kid in custody.
While trying to cool off after his impassioned speech Dale stumbles across a disemboweled cow. The moment he turns around and Carl’s zombie-chicken friend is there already. It attacks Dale, and the rest of the group comes running… but it’s too late. Daryl takes the zombie out right as it sinks its bony claws into Dale’s gut and tears him to bits. NOOOOOOOOO!!!! The group freaks out and tries to help but nothing can be done. Rick tries to do the humane thing by shooting him in the head, but he can’t do it so Daryl steps up and does it.
“And shepherds we shall be, for thee my lord for thee.”
DALE NOOOOOOO!!!! I’m so sad! Not Dale!!! While he may have been a gossip, he stirred things up, and Jeffrey DeMunn managed to keep gossip queen Dale likeable, episode after episode. Au Revoir, mon fisherman hat wearing capitan.
Likes:
- Shocker of an ending. Things were starting to feel to safe around the camp. I guess they had to mix things up a little bit.
Dislikes:
- Daryl mercilessly beating on the groups prisoner. Jeez! Does that guy really deserve that?
- Lori’s opinion on killing the prisoner? “If you think it’s best.” Come on, Lori! Have your own opinion.
- No more new Dale faces in coming episodes. NOOOOO! At least we’ll have plenty of Dale faces around here, though.
This is the Action Flick Chick, and you’ve just been kicked in the ass!
I thought this weeks episode was kind of predictable. That’s not to say it wasn’t good, but I expected more since it is almost a season ender.
Daryl… I disagree, Somebody had to get the truth out of the weasle.
If for a second you believe that the kid isn’t as corrupt and didn’t join in the rapes??
All I can say is he earned himself a place with the raiding party and to carry a firearm.
That speaks for itself.. So when it comes to beating a threat to my survival to get the truth?
Go Daryl!!
I know I am not the only person that was, well, shocked to my foundation at Dale’s death. What a horrible way to go, gut ripped open, knowing he will turn even IF his wound could have been fixed. Poor Dale! He will be missed, I know I will miss him.
Carl needs his ass kicked, perhaps a finger or two taken off, fed to a ‘walker’ and him made to watch. Harsh but the kid really got on my last nerve during this episode.
Lori is making me mental. Andrea is like a yo-yo, back and forth, back and forth. I still believe that she and Shane will do the ‘wild thing’.
Another surprise was Hershel giving Glen his grandfather’s watch. Does this mean he and Maggie will marry in the zombie filled world, or just live as man and wife or lovers? Time will tell. Seems like Hershel is giving up in a way. He does not want to make another decision since he was so wrong before, hence giving over to Rick.
Daryl got his evil on! Just think if it had been Merle doing the torture thing, WOW! That was mind blowing and done so well by Norman Reedus.
Who in the group will be the next snack for a ‘walker’ – only the writers know. I will stay tuned for sure.
Thanks for the article Ms. Chick. FAB as always.
I didn’t see it coming until he walked off alone, but I should have. Dale was the gentle older man who held onto his sense of morality. Herschel is a gentle older man trying to KEEP hold of his sense of morality. Herschel’s a slightly meatier character because of that, so Dale was redundant.
Poor Dale.
Last Dale-face ever. It’s the end of an era.
As for Carl, among his other annoying misbehaviors, he lost a perfectly good .45. That boy’s in serious need of a time out. And a hellacious paddling.
