“Vatos” is more along the lines of what I want to see from The Walking Dead television series! Things just got real, and I’m still loving it. The action and gore were kicked up a notch in episode four! Headshots, blood splatters, and guts, oh my! Let’s break down exactly what was cool and not-so-cool.
Spoiler Alert!
My Likes: The zombies look amazing, the increased zombie attacks, the use of Merle’s sawed off hand to terrorize the hostage, the eating of Ed, the turn around of the gangsters actually being nice young men helping the elderly.
My Dislikes: Too much talking, not enough zombie attacks, escaping Atlanta again…time to escape from someplace new.
So what happened?
“Vatos” picks up on the roof in Atlanta where Rick, Daryl, T-Dog, and Glenn are staring at the sawed off hand of the missing Merle. Daryl takes his brother’s hand with them as they follow the blood trail, finding evidence that Merle has cauterized his arm stump and escaped out into the city. The group decides to make getting the guns their next priority before they go looking for Stumpy out in the streets. Glenn comes up with a well thought out plan that allows Glenn to pick up the bag of guns, but then they run into a group of guys who are after the same bag of guns. Glenn and Daryl try to fight the guys but they kidnap Glenn, while leaving the bag of guns and one of their boys behind.
Rick, T-Dog, and Daryl convince the hostage to take them to their hiding spot by throwing Merle’s hand at him and telling him they were going to cut off his feet (and by “they” I mean Daryl did all the threatening). There’s a stand off between the two groups, yada yada yada, it is revealed that this group of “gangsters” is just putting up a tough front and they are actually taking care of elderly that got left behind in a nursing home. Aww, what a nice group of boys.
Rick leaves them a few guns and they head back to their truck. They find that their truck is gone and is probably being driven by a one-handed Merle, meaning they have to hoof it back home.
Meanwhile, back at the camp, Jim goes a little cuckoo and starts digging what looks like a lot of graves. The others try to get Jim to take a break and drink some water, but he won’t. Shane tackles him and ties him to a tree in order to get him to take a break. He reveals that the only reason he escaped where he was because the zombies were too busy eating his family. Ooooh. That sucks. Later, everyone is hanging around the campfire and then zombies attack and chow down on a number of unimportant extras, as well as Amy. Rick, T-Dog, and Daryl show up just in time to help fend off the zombies. The episode ends with everyone looking around in disbelief.
This is the Action Flick Chick, and you’ve just been kicked in the ass!
