Spidey’s New Webs (and Old Crush), and to Hulk or Not to Hulk?

Production on Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in full swing (see what I did there?) and that means we’ve got new photos to ooh and ahh over! First is a peek at Peter Parker’s new Spidey suit. It seems that they’re abandoning the Ben Reilly-esque suit of the first one for a more traditional costume, and I, for one, am glad to see Spider-Man sporting his more natural look.

Next is the new addition to the Spectacular Spider-Cast, Miss Mary Jane Watson, portrayed by a gal who knows something about the secret lives of American teenagers, Shailene Woodley.

While she seems like a decent enough choice for Mary Jane, it’s odd that the forces behind Amazing Spider-Man 2 went for a girl with wholesome good looks considering that the character she’s portraying is known to be a famous actress/super model.

Lastly, MTV Geek questioned Joss Whedon regarding the possibility of a solo Hulk movie, and, always the wise man, he had plenty to say on the topic:

“He’s the Claudio of superheroes. Because the problem is it’s a very popular character, but it’s not a superhero. Half of it’s a superhero, half of it’s a werewolf. And you can’t structure it like a superhero movie, you can’t light it like a superhero movie. How do you develop that?”

“It would be extremely difficult. The one thing you would have in your favor would be Mark Ruffalo. But, right now I don’t know if they have plans to do that or not, because he works so well as part of a greater whole, but by himself, it’s tough. I don’t envy the guys who went before.”

Wise words, Whedon. Wise words indeed.
