Joss freakin’ Whedon is A-MAZING! He consistently produces fantastic work and is one of the best at writing strong female characters. Somewhere between Firefly and The Avengers Whedon co-wrote his first true-blue horror film, The Cabin in the Woods, with Drew Goddard. This flick was so good if it were a hired escort, I’d empty my bank account and buy as many dates with it as possible. Oh yeah, it was that good!
The less you know about the film, the better. Really, go see it now so that nothing gets spoiled. All you should know going in is that it’s a horror film where five friends go out to a cabin in the woods. Just like all horror films, that relaxing weekend full of swimming and sexing doesn’t go as planned.
Whedon fans will be happy to see several likable actors from his previous work Dollhouse like Amy Acker and Fran Kranz. The Cabin in the Woods also stars Chris Hemsworth, although interestingly enough it was actually filmed several years ago and was supposed to act as Hemsworth’s breakout role. Well, that was until a little movie called Thor came along and changed all that.
This is one of the smartest horror films that will keep you invested and constantly guessing as to what will happen next. Just like the tag line says, “You think you know the story”…but you don’t! You really, really don’t. It has the perfect blend of comedy, horror, and action, none of them detracting from the other but all combining to be entertaining in the fullest. I whole heartedly recommend The Cabin in the Woods!
Action Rating: 3 Transforming Bongs, out of 5!
Enjoyment Rating: 5 Transforming Bongs, out of 5!
This is the Action Flick Chick, and you’ve just been kicked in the ass!
I didn’t like it as much as everyone else. The first half was so so….just another typical horror movie…nothing special. The second half was all kinds of special. Definitely something people need before people spoil it for them.

Long time reader, first time commenter; mostly agree with your reviews but not on this film… I wasn’t a fan! By the way, please email me — address is on my site, I have a question for you regarding your site!
It was 50\50. But I will try it again. I did like the concept of it overall
Have not seen it yet, so want to. I LOVE Joss! Thanks for the review K. Beautiful piece of work as always.
