The third movie in a series is always the best- The Godfather Part III, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Matrix: Revolutions, X-Men: The Last Stand, I could go on. But, hold onto your excitement, trilogy lovers.  Slumber Party Massacre 3 (SPMIII), sadly, falls dead last in the Slumber Party Massacre series.

11 Movies I Recommend From 2022 in a List I Can Call Whatever I Want Because This is My Website and I Am the Boss, Part 1

Before 2023 starts throwing films our way, get caught up on some of 2022’s worthiest films! In case you’re waiting with baited breath for me to talk about the biggest box office ballers like Avatar: The Way of Water, Top Gun: Maverick, or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, feel free to breathe. They’re not on this list. Not because they aren’t worthy, but because I just haven’t seen them. In fact just about every film on the highest grossing list of 2022 I have not managed to see because… life breaks free. Plus you probably don’t need anyone telling you why to go see those titans of film, but if you’re looking to break away from the more well-trodden path let me recommend some lesser-known flicks.

Kate (2021)

A dying person has nothing left to lose. If you know that X thing is going to kill you soon, then in a way you have been given a gift. A gift you may not want, but a gift nonetheless. Knowing your hourglass is about to run out of sand lets you finish up whatever business you need to and, hopefully, do it in style. Kate (2021) shows us the journey of a dying woman intent on making the most of this final gift by giving it out to as many enemies as possible.

Dreaming of a Black Christmas (2019)

How many remakes does it take for a remake to take gold? Black Christmas is still trying to figure that out. There are now three different Black Christmas movies, the original dates back to 1974, the first remake in 2006, and then another was birthed into the world in 2019. And wow is it…different.

The Bleakest of Black Christmas (2006)

Some people believe that birth order shapes a child’s personality growing up. Psychologist Alfred Adler studied this specifically, coming up with the “middle child syndrome,” explaining the middle born child is somewhat forgotten by the parents since their attention is often focused on the older child or baby of the family (a highly-debated finding, I might add). This in turn can lead to the middle child having difficulty knowing what role they play in the family and having self esteem problems. If they’re not too busy staging a huge rebellion against their parents, the middle child may take interest in completely different hobbies from their older sibling so that they can find something that’s “theirs.” Similarly, Black Christmas (2006) is the middle born movie of the franchise and does things differently from its 1974 older sibling and 2019 younger sibling. Unlike the middle children in Adler’s theory, however, this middle child is one who should be forgotten and ignored.

Violent Night (2022): Christmas Spirit Out the Anus!

Everyone has their own favorite holiday movie they put on around this time every year. These holiday movies are often linked to a person’s childhood and evoke warm and fuzzy feelings to get them in the holiday spirit. For some of us, we need those warm and fuzzy feelings to warm up the cold lumps of coal in our hearts. With so many holiday movies out there, true action Christmas movies make up a tiny percentage. We have a few holiday action classics, but those stockings have been pretty bereft of new movies as of late. Thankfully, Violent Night (2022) has come down the chimney to try to stake its place on the mantle as a holiday classic. But is this a gift we should keep, or give away to someone smelly?
