Coming Attraction: The Call (2013)

Halle-Berry-in-The-Call-trailer

Halle Berry is one of the few people who can have any hair style in the world and still look good. In The Call, we see her sporting a pretty wild ‘do, but, thanks to her magical powers, she still manages to pull it off. In the film, she (and her hair) portrays an emergency operator, Jordan, who answers a call of a young girl being murdered. Later on, she answers another call about the same guy kidnapping another girl, Casey (Abigail Breslin). The clock is ticking on this girl’s life, and Jordan must find a way to save Casey before it’s too late, again. The Call rings into theaters March 15, 2013.

Parker Exclusive Featurette!

parker Even though Jason Statham had three films in 2012, and his most recent outing was a mere five months ago, it feels like forever since his last film came out. He’s such a hard working actor he usually has a movie coming out every other week. Well, Stathamites, the wait is almost over, because he’s got a new film coming soon, Parker, and it’ll park itself in theaters January 25 to refill our Statham Actionometers. In it, he plays a very professional thief with a specific code of ethics (which is a real stretch for him); but when he’s double crossed by his partners, he looks to get a little revenge. In order to do this, he teams up with an insider played by Jennifer Lopez. Yahoo Movies has an exclusive featurette for your viewing pleasure.

A Look into The Hunger Games Sequel: Catching Fire

CFlogo

Any actors hired for a role in The Hunger Games films have a hard task ahead of them. Fans have already formed mental pictures of every scene and every character from the books, so if it doesn’t play out on the big screen exactly the way they imagined it, disappointment sets in. Sam Claflin, playing the part of Finnick Odair, has experienced a lot of this pressure to get it right while filming the second installment, Catching Fire. Entertainment Weekly traveled to Hawaii to get exclusive interviews and behind the scenes looks. Claflin talks about getting tweets: “So many people have been like ‘Don’t mess this up, or we will kill you.’” That’s quite a bit of pressure!

EW-1242-COVER EW also has interviews with Jennifer Lawrence and director Francis Lawrence covering their first meeting, vision for the film, and how down to earth Jennifer Lawrence is. Sounds like heaven for fans of the books/films, so pick it up today. Visit EW.com for more information on what it has to offer. Here are a few more images of the new film from EW.

New Midseason Poster for The Walking Dead

THE-WALKING-DEAD

A new brooding poster has been released for AMC’s hit series, The Walking Dead, featuring The Governor (David Morrissey) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln). These two coming face to face is my most anticipated TV moment this winter, so seeing them together gets my blood pumping and my heart racing. The series will return February 10. Until then, I’ll keep grasping on to any bits of information I can get my hands on.

A Vampire, a Robin, and a Man in Black Join Cast for Sin City 2

Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez are filming a sequel to Sin City, the noirified Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Chronologically, the film takes place before the happenings of Sin City and will see popular character Dwight McCarthy before his drastic facial surgery that changed his appearance. Clive Owen played the character in Sin City, and Screen Rant is reporting that Josh Brolin (MIB III, Gangster Squad) will tackle the role in the upcoming installment. Brolin’s portrayal of a younger Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black III was spot on, so he seems like an excellent choice.

Deadline.com reports more exciting news: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Christopher Meloni have also been cast in Sin City 2. The former will be playing a rather important part as the character Johnny, and the latter will play a police officer- a big stretch for Meloni. Along side these will be Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, and Micky Rourke reprising their roles from the first film. The cast is shaping up nicely, driving up my interest in the film. Sin City A Dame to Kill For is set to be released in theaters October 4, 2013.

14 Reasons Why Die Hard is Pretty Much the Best Action Movie Ever

john-mcclane-zippo-lighter-die-hard-blu-ray-cap

I was interviewed recently on the influence of Die Hard in the action genre, and, while I was mulling it over in my head, all these little details started sticking out about the flick, making me realize how much care went into the making of it. Then I found Janice Hardy’s wonderful article about the Seamless Plotting of Die Hard and everything fell into place. Die Hard isn’t the average action film by any means- it’s the little details in the plot and characters that give it the extra oomph to push it onto just about every persons’ “Best Action Movie” list. Expanding on the above article, here are some of the reasons why Die Hard is pretty much the best action movie ever.

  1. John McClane being barefoot is set up in the first scene and continues to be an important factor throughout the film.
  2. The Rolex watch mentioned in the beginning of the film comes into play later when Hans Gruber catches on to it.
  3. Holly flips over the picture of her family, preventing Hans from connecting her to her family (and McClane) until late in the movie.
  4. McClane is never shown as incompetent just to keep the story moving.
  5. McClane doesn’t give in to Hans’ threats: Hans says to give him the detonators or Ellis dies, and McClane says nothing. He prioritizes the good of the whole over the good over one (kind of douchey) dude.
  6. The characters are well developed, even down to the lowest henchman, which doesn’t happen often in action movies. More often than not, the henchmen are generic bad guys with no personality.
  7. Argyle, the limo driver, could have been a passing extra, but is given a personality by showing him hanging out in the limo, listening to music, completely oblivious to what’s going on for most of the film.
  8. Karl, Hans secondhand man, had a brother who McClane kills early on, giving Karl a personal vendetta against McClane, one which he values above even following Hans’ orders.
  9. Hans’ computer hacker is gleeful and apathetic about the violence going on around him.
  10. One henchman, with gun in hand, is posed and ready for the police to attack when he sees some candy. He slowly reaches down and grabs a candy bar even though there’s an impending attack.
  11. Al Powell, a character not introduced until late in the film, gets an entire backstory and character arc.
  12. Alan Rickman is brilliant.
  13. Hans Gruber is brilliantly evil.
  14. John McClane is a witty, snarky, badass with a human touch.

New Red Band Trailer for Evil Dead!

EvilDeadRemakeUglyFaceFLphofull1

A new red band trailer for the Evil Dead remake has been released by TriStar and it…is… oh so wonderfully disgusting, and definitely NSFW. You can watch it on Dare to Share Your Scare and record your reaction for everyone to see. The original Evil Dead was ridiculously gory (in a good way), and this trailer seems like it’s trying to up the ante. Hey, maybe it’ll break the world record for goriest flick ever made; if such a record exists, it’s likely either held by Peter Jackson’s insane Braindead or Lindsay Lohan’s The Parent Trap.
