Heroes for Heroes: The Badass Celebrity Smackdown at Comicpalooza
…“The next best thing to being a sci-fi or action hero has to be shooting a sci-fi or action hero with a gun. Or maybe being shot by one.” (Houston, TX) – “The next best thing to being a sci-fi or action hero has to be shooting a sci-fi or action hero with a gun. Or maybe being shot by one,” says John Simons, founder and Chairman of Comicpalooza, the Texas International Comic Con. At least that’s the premise that led to the Badass Celebrity Smackdo… Continue reading
The Classic Sci-Fi Action Movie (well, half an action movie): Aliens (1986)
…the suspense even more, but not the action. One aspect that I love in this film is the fact that Bill Paxton (known to me as dude from Twister) and a lot of the other guys freak out completely over the aliens; however, Ripley keeps her cool and proves that she has bigger balls than the rest of them by taking control of the situation and formulating a plan. Oh yeah and kicking some alien ass! BOOYAH! Sigourney Weaver is a hardcore tough chick thoug… Continue reading

…ered with comedic situations. Q. Science fiction is important to you. Your ScifiBabe project became Pink Raygun, a site focused on women’s views on speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, horror). Obviously there was a niche for a site like that, but why did you happen to be the one(s) who itched to fill that niche? Lisa Fary (foreground). John Dallaire (background). Lisa: I think we came at the front of a tide. We conceived of PRG around D… Continue reading

Interview: John Dallaire (Intergalactic Law: Grey Squad)
…want to capture some of that. Q. Science fiction is important to you. Your ScifiBabe project became Pink Raygun, a site focused on women’s views on speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, horror). Obviously there was a niche for a site like that, but why did you happen to be the one(s) who itched to fill that niche? John: We started Pink Raygun because, honestly, we were looking for a place to promote Intergalactic Law. Lisa kept searching… Continue reading

Pilot Review: Almost Human and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
…st Human and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. FOX doesn’t have the best history with Sci-fi productions- the notable recent exception being the five season run of Fringe. So when I see a teaser and get excited, that excitement always dies when FOX is involved as the network. But I have now seen the full pilot episode for Almost Human and I have high hopes that FOX allows the show to be as awesome as it can be. Besides, it’s from J.J. Abrams… FOX seems to li… Continue reading

Looper (2012): You’ll Want to Stay in the Loop on this One!
…oper lives up to the hype; it’s a film that’s a reflective action movie, a sci-fi noir tale, and just a friggin’ good flick. There are many great things about Looper, the first of which I’ll mention being the performances. There aren’t words to describe just how well Joseph-Gordon Levitt portrayed a young Bruce Willis. Everything, from his expression to the subtle rasp of his voice, was pitch perfect. And speaking of Mr. McClane, this film is Bruc… Continue reading

#FFF Fake Fangirl Friday: Geek Girls Exist! Do Fake Geek Girls Exist Too? Is It Fair to Ask?
…t me either way. BKSalmon: This geek test stuff is lame. I love comics and sci-fi but I also love weight lifting and 4x4ing. Pidgeon holing is pointless. bwitchdkitty: is that into it or away from it? CoriSeaSinger: What if they run squeeing? futuremonkey: At risk of seeming far more indignant than I actually am, doesn’t “geek test” seem a bit demeaning? GeekWingNet: WIN RT: The Geek Test RT: way to truly tell real from fake is drop them in a con… Continue reading
