May Mega Mayhem: Scribblenauts!

Day #15: Scribblenauts

General Thoughts: This game is for the Nintendo DS, which means that you can play it anywhere. You can play it on a train, on a plane, on the toilet, or while eating green eggs and ham. It’s very simple, low key game built to emphasize fun and wackiness. You play as a little dude named Maxwell, and you’re tasked with collecting little starites. To accomplish this task, you are given the power to summon any object you can think of simply by typing it into the screen. For example, your objective is to help a lumberjack do his job. So you write in whatever you can think of to help the lumberjack chop down a tree. It can be as simple as using an axe or you can let your mind run wild by summoning an army of beavers to gnaw the tree down. The game doesn’t have every single thing you will think of but it’s got a very large vocabulary. A sequel is planed to come out later this year with 10,000 new words, including adjectives, and 100+ new levels.

31 Minutes of Play: I worked by way through levels 1-1 and 1-2 on advanced mode which means I played each level three times through and I couldn’t use any objects previously used to accomplish the objective. My first objective was to capture a butterfly. Ahh, so soothing. First I used a trampoline to jump in the air and grab it. Then, and I’m quite proud of this one, I used a sling shot to stun the butterfly out of the air. It made a little sad face as I scooped it up. Thirdly, after trying to knock it out of the air with a raw steak, I realized I could do this in a peaceful manner and coax it out of the air with a flower. Worked like a charm. I ended my time with some freestyle gaming where I created a zombie, killed it with poison, and put it in a coffin. However, just when I thought it was safe the Zombie came back to life, so I had to torch his ass! I tried to be nice, but the thing just kept coming. It’s all about survival!

Fun Rating: 4 Santas Driving a Batmobile Fighting a Hoard of Zombies, out of 5!
