Day #11: Just Cause 2

General Thoughts: Just Cause 2 is a game all about swinging around, shooting at badguys, and causing as much chaos as possible. Sounds like my kind of game! You’re armed with a grappling hook, grenades, and all sorts of projectile weapons. The coolest part of this game is that you can use the grappling hook to connect pretty much any two things together. Is some guy annoying you? Hook him to oncoming traffic and watch as he gets dragged off into the sunset! The game is fun, the controls are intuitive, and the gameplay is as open-ended as it gets. There isn’t anything telling you that you absolutely have to go rescue this person or walk this path. Just go wreck some stuff!

31 Minutes of Play: I parachuted into an enemy camp, killing baddies right and left. I blew up some towers with a rocket launcher, and then went berserk and started swinging around the jungle and taking potshots at the local commandos, Predator-style. I then hijacked a car and hightailed it outta there.

Craziest Moment: I hijacked an airplane and flew around for a while, then crashed the plane into an enemy base. I survived but the enemy commandos didn’t. Then I was surrounded by baddies (I guess they didn’t appreciate watching their friends get smashed by an airplane) but I used my grappling hook to get up onto a roof while shooting and blowing up a tower onto the baddies. Weee!!! This next moment isn’t one that I was directly in control of, but it was awesome anyway. One of my friends became obsessed with stealing a giant iron bell from a bell tower and flying off into the sky with it. He rammed a jeep into the tower, shot the tower with grenades until it collapsed, and then drove the jeep at breakneck speeds down the highway, bell bouncing along behind him and taking out other vehicles on the road. When he finally made it to the helicopter is was a triumphant moment for everyone; seeing that big black bell zooming off into the sky was an absolute blast!

Fun Rating: 5 big black bells being towed by a helicopter, out of 5!

Unemployed and I tried the demo on 360 and it seemed like a lot of fun. At one point, he got in a helicopter and flew it as high as it would go, had to be thousands of feet in the air. Then he’d jump out and grappling hook back in to it. Then did a free fall to the ground which seemed to take ages. The world seems HUGE.
