A Wild Ride Indeed: Action Flick Chick Theme Song

Posted By Action Flick Chick on October 29, 2009

Ask and ye shall receive. No sooner than I said that I needed a theme song, I got one. Wildride Robert Roy already had one locked and loaded, ready for bear. Who knew?

First, check out some of the many suggestions people made.

Suggestions:

Our colleague Arturo, who challenges the entire planet on his blog (“One guy. One world. Who’s gonna blink first?”) and works (lurks) in the shadows as El Secreto at Hour 42, suggested “Don’t Wait Up for Me” by the Donnas probably because I’m a night owl and “Because I’m Awesome” by the Dollyrots because, well, that speaks for itself. The chorus to “Because I’m Awesome” works well.

Shadowcommando suggested “The Bird Is the Word” (the actual title, he realized a moment later, is “Surfin’ Bird”) but promptly reconsidered, deciding it “would be a horrible theme song.” Interestingly enough, my friend Andre Meadows (BlackNerd on the Reelz Channel program Movie Mob) had come up with a variation on that, “B-B-B-Bird Bird Bird, Bird Versus Nerd,” the week before in reference to a project we’re doing together.

Actress Amanda Bladon (star of Idiom Films’ The Academy) hit on a great one, “Chick Habit” by April March – which many Action Flick Chick readers may know best from the credits of Death Proof, the latter half of Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse double feature. ”Sweet theme song style song,” Amanda said, “with a retro grindhouse genre feel to it.” I wonder if the 1964 French song it’s based on (“Laisse tomber les filles” sung by France Gall) is now in the public domain. Seems likely, doesn’t it?

Because the Chick Is a Bird of Prey:

“Looks That Kill” by Motley Crue – suggested by @KanUDig_It
Plus track 2 in Quixote74’s album (see below) seems to fit this.

Shadowbat – yet another shadowy figure, one who previously risked life and limb by pegging G.I. Joe’s Baroness as an alter ego for the Action Flick Chick - offered suggestions which included these:

“Now I’m That Chick” by Livvi Franc featuring Pitbull
That Girl’s season five theme
“Girl” by Monkee Davy Jones – This comes from The Brady Bunch episode where Marcia Brady learns that lying about knowing celebrities will make them befriend you.

Because, um . . . huh?

“Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes – suggested by @aaronkaiser

The Quixotic Album

Randall (@Quizote74) compiled an album:
1. “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC
2. “Girls! Girls! Girls” by Liz Phair
3. “The Girl at the Videogame Store” by Parry Gripp
4. “Living Loving Maid” by Led Zeppelin
5. “She Smiled Sweetly” by the Rolling Stones
6. “Living After Midnight” by the Donnas
7. “Tough Chick” by the Rockbusters (for the AFC love theme)

Ashley Bartee didn’t make a specific suggestion but, interestingly enough, said she’d already been thinking I need a theme song. We then agreed she should have one too. Maybe she should talk to the person who, as it turned out, had one ready for me.

The Theme Song:

Wildride Robert Roy – alias @wyldride, alias Being Mean to Pixley – revealed that he’d already created one, having been inspired by my birthday of the week before. FYI: It’s never too late to send presents.
