It’s good to be a geek in 2012 and it’s about to get a lot better thanks to youtube. Geek goddess Felicia Day and geek comedian Chris Harwick have been sponsored by Youtube to create a full lineup of geeky shows.
Felicia Day took the sponsorship and created six new web shows that will start premiering April 2nd on the new channel Geek and Sundry. She will star in a show called Flog, a vlog about whatever random thing she does that day. Wil Wheaton will be hosting Tabletop in which he will play tabletop games with recognizable faces such as Freddie Wong, Grant Imahara, Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome from Garfunkel and Oats, and Colin Ferguson, as well as many others.
Next up is Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt hosting Sword & Laser starting April 13. It started as a book club podcast and is now a web show that will cover the latest books and interviews with top notch authors. The major comic book publisher, Dark Horse, will be bringing Dark Horse Motion Comics to the internet with stories about Hellboy, The Goon, and The Umbrella Academy. The Guild will be returning for season five and the first four seasons will be uploaded to Youtube as well.
Starting July 16, Written by a Kid, will premiere. Children will tell whatever story is in their head and directors like Dane Boedigheimer (Annoying Orange), Rhett & Link (IFC’s Commercial Kings) and Daniel Strange (Between Two Ferns with Zach Galfianakis) will make those stories come to life either through animation or live action. Get ready to delve deeper into the crazy world of children’s minds.
On a separate channel the geekery will continue at the hands of Chris Hardwick and team on April 2nd. He will be launching a lot of shows on his Nerdist youtube channel including, but not limited to: Ain’t It Cool News (based off of the website), Kids in the Hall, The Awkward Family Show, Cute Things Exploding, Just Cos, Four Points with Alex Albrecht, Justin Willman’s Magic Meltdown, Gumball 3000 with the Dudesons, Ralph Cirella’s Show, Weird S**t from Japan, Comic Book Club Live, Tournament of Nerds, Face to Face with Weird Al Yankovic, Star Talk with Neil Degrasse-Tyson, Neil Patrick Harris Dreaming in Puppets, and a celebrity bowling show called Chris Hardwick’s All Star Bowling.
Four Points will have four experts in four different fields, one of which includes Alison Haislip, talking and giving their expert different point of views. Tournament of Nerds will feature debates about who will win in a fight between nerdy things, people, and characters. It will also feature the world beard champion on one episode! Whooo! During the panel they talked about what an a**hole he was! So tune in starting April 2nd to see bearded a**holes, Felicia Day doing stuff, and Neil Patrick Harris with puppets. Visit their Youtube channels to see trailers for their upcoming shows and don’t forget to subscribe! The more support shown through subscribers and views will increase the odds of having a second season of all these shows.
