Movie theaters are still struggling compared to their pre-pandemic/pre-streaming heyday, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t getting plenty of great movies to watch! In fact, there are so many movies coming out that sometimes it can be hard to figure out what to watch. What do you need to prioritize to avoid spoilers and stay part of The Conversation? Which lesser-known movies are the wonderful outsider weirdos looking forward to the most? To help answer these questions and more, I turned to the AFC follower army, and here’s what they had to say:
@actionchick: Which summer movie are you most excited about?

Robert Workman: Deadpool 3!
John Ferrigno: Monkey Man!
Marq Piocos: Deadpool 3, If, Joker, Back to Black, Bob Marley
Gabriel Rowe Anthony: Dune 2
Mike Mather: Dune 2, Deadpool 3
Michael Nelson: Deadpool 3
Bryan Johnson: Deadpool 3 & A Quiet Place Day 1
Russell Pinkston: Deadpool & Wolverine and The Fall Guy
Harold Burman: Dune 2, Ghostbusters, Godzilla x Kong, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Furiosa, Ballerina, Bad Boys 4, Bikeriders, Alien: Romulus, Nosferatu. And I’ll probably check out remake of Road House, just to see how it compares to the Patrick Swayze classic.
Jennifer Noecker Miller: A Quiet Place: Day One
@GeekFurious: Dune 2.
@AlexMorris2014: Dune 2, Furiosa the Mad Max romp, and Fungi: Web of Life (I like random documentaries).
@RocketLlama: Mad Max Fury Road Minus One (aka FURIOUSA), Deadpool & Wolverine
@LegitimateGeek: Dune 2 & Ghostbusters
@andrewhatfield: Dune Part 2
@PLBthetoonist: Ghostbusters
@thebl4ckd0g: maybe the new Dune movie. Or the new Ghostbusters.
Fred Topel: Furiosa

It seems like Deadpool 3, Furiosa, Ghostbusters, and Dune 2 are the major contenders this summer! All sequels and prequels, which is no surprise given the current state of Hollywood. Oh well. Fury Road is one of my all-time favorites, and Anya Taylor Joy is an incredible actress, so here’s hoping Furiosa can live up to its predecessor.
Speaking of movies living up to their predecessors, I also checked in to see how people are feeling about Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House versus the original.
@actionchick:
…I’ll keep an open mind, but I dunno about the trailer for the new Road House. Too harsh? What does everyone else think about it?

@DoubleSixx
I dunno. They shouldn’t remake any Patrick Swayze movies.
@mikegonzalez2k
I’m not feeling it either.
@rocketllama
Making Dalton an ex-punchsportman is so much less interesting than him being “the best cooler in the biz.” Part of why Road House was good is because it’s a little weird and plays it all very seriously.
@Jacksweeney000
Nah, this look bad. Making Dalton a famous UFC fighter is awkward. In the first one, he’s a drifter with a mysterious past. That helps the suspension of disbelief. But making the setting the Florida Keys rather than the middle of nowhere Missouri is an even more awkward choice.
@THGBagley
No I’m with you on this one. The trailer didn’t grab me

Looks like P-Swayze may have been wrong when he said “no one wins a fight,” because the feelings here are not in Jakey-G’s favor. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out once these big-budget-buckaroos hit the screens!
This is the Action Flick Chick, and you’ve just been kicked in the ass!
Disclaimer: Just because I am the Action Flick Chick and love action movies does not mean I condone real life violence in any way. Everyone has their own shit to deal with, be nice to each other.
