Ringer News from Comic-Con International

Buffy is back!

Only…she isn’t Buffy anymore. Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to the CW for their 2011 Fall lineup in the new thriller Ringer.

CW’s new series, Ringer, is double the trouble. SMG will be playing the dual roles of Bridget and Siobahn, twin sisters at odds with each with a troublesome past, taking steps to mend their sibling rivalry until a freak accident requires one to step into the others high heels. Bridget takes over Siobahn’s hoity toity rich girl life and realizes it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, when an attempted murder is thrown into the equation. It’s like a grown-up Parent Trap, only minus the liability of Lohan drugging out everywhere.

When asked if returning to the CW Network (formerly WB) felt like a homecoming, SMG couldn’t help but gush, “Oh my gosh, YES!”

But SMG isn’t the only nerdly relatable face in the cast. Joining her are Gotham’s mayor, Nestor Carbonell and Mr. Fantastic himself, Ioan Gruffudd. Kristoffer Polaha  and Tara Summers round out the rest of the cast.

The Ringer pilot will make it’s debut at SDComic-Con in Ballroom #20, with a new poster revealed and their panel ongoing right now. SMG entered the panel to a standing ovation, and quickly wanted to make things clear that she isn’t trying to “top Buffy” in any way, but rather wanted to make another great show for her fans. (And also, as executive producer, takes credit for all the hottie nerd guys in the Ringer cast.)

“Fans are why you make tv. You honor that in the projects you choose.” – Sarah Michelle Gellar, SDCC.

Ringer will premiere Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 9pm.
