Never have so many superheroes been on screen at one time! And never has a movie been more awesome than The Avengers! Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) all come together to form a team of badasses so impressive it’ll make you want to be the best super villain you can be just to have the chance to get your ass kicked by all of them.
The Avengers truly is an amazing film in every aspect. Joss Whedon managed to miraculously juggle all these heroes so that each star had enough screen time and retains their core personalities. I was afraid with so many big wigs on screen together the defining characteristics that fans love would get lost or muddled, but they didn’t! Thor was still the more mature, grown up man we saw at the end of Thor. Captain America was still the polite, level headed, team leader he was in Captain America. And Tony Stark was still his fast-talking, self-centered Robert Downey Jr. being awesome self. As for the others (Black Widow, Hulk, Hawkeye), these relatively undeveloped characters each get some screen time to let them shine. The audience sees a little some of the dark past hiding within Black Widow. Hawkeye was only briefly in Thor, but this time the relationship between him and Black Widow is developed and his excellent skill with a bow is proven. And the Hulk! Bruce Banner/The Hulk steals every scene he’s in. Mark Ruffalo really nailed it in his depiction of this endearing, nerdy guy putting everything he’s got into being remembered for something other than being a giant green rage monster. When he is in green monster form, though, he’s allowed to let loose and have a little fun wrecking things.
The action was large scale awesomeness! In addition to the main heroes vs. villains conflict you’ll get to see some of the greatest hero vs. hero fights ever brought to the big screen. With near immortal characters who can do impossible things, one’s imagination is the only limit to the action possibilities; and, let me just say, Whedon (and creator Stan Lee) both have marvelous imaginations.
The Avengers lives up to all the hopes and dreams fans wanted it to be. It’s a fantastic superhero film with fantastic action and a must watch for every single person.

Overall, it was absolutely brilliant and quite probably the greatest comic book movie ever made. I just had two problems with it …
1. I didn’t quite buy Scarlett Johanson as Black Widow. Widow is supposed to be cold, hard and an absolute pro, SJ played her with too much emotion and somehow made her seem a bit inexperienced.
2. Why does Joss Wedon have to kill my favorite character(s) every time he makes a movie?
I agree with you, generally, but the Hulk-Loki Bam-Bam conversation was my favorite…
You left out one scene – “I’m not even sure what it does.”
Loved every minute of it. I particularly enjoyed all the little nods to fans Joss strew throughout the movie. Tony Stark wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt gave me the giggles. And woo, all the action scenes! I can’t wait to go and watch it again – it’s a movie that deserves the big screen!
