Schwarzenegger and Stallone: Still Fierce Competitors or Friends?

Sly_and_Arnold

I can’t freakin’ get enough of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone! I just love these two guys and almost all of their movies. When they first became action stars, there was quite the competitive feeling between the two. On Yahoo! Movies Stallone and Schwarzenegger both comment on their relationship today. Apparently, they’re on friendly terms now and respect each other, which is fine by me. I hope that leads to more of their teaming up in films, but I also hope that deep down there’s still a little feeling of competitiveness in order to push them to keep making movies.

New Red 2 Trailer: Retire Harder

kinopoisk.ruRed 2’s trailer is here, and it’s looking hella fun. Along side the Red‘s returning crew (Bruce Willlis, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, and John Malkovich), this sequel’s packing in a few new faces. Okay, since they’re mostly old people they’re not really new new, but they’re new to the franchise. Anyway, the newcomers are Catherine Zeta-Jones and Anthony Hopkins. Red was a solid, snarky action flick, and I’ve got high hopes for this one when it hits theaters August 2, 2013.

Coming Attraction: Warm Bodies (2013)

warm-bodies-poster-ew-branded

Now, Warm Bodies isn’t the kind of thing I’d normally cover on this site, seeing as how it’s a Young Adult Romantic Comedy, but it holds the one key element that grabs my interest despite the genre: zombies! Based on the young adult novel of the same name, Warm Bodies tries to blend humor, romance, and the walking dead all in one angsty teen package. The film stars Nicholas Hoult, otherwise known as Beast from the surprisingly good X-Men: First Class, and Teresa Palmer from the unsurprisingly unpopular I Am Number Four. Warm Bodies heats up theaters February 1.

Is The Walking Dead’s New Showrunner a Dead Man Walking?

Walking Dead 1

TV Line reports that AMC’s The Walking Dead is “nearing a deal” with a new showrunner. And the most likely candidate… Scott Gimple! Here’s AMC’s quote about the new blood:  “Gimple, whose previous writing credits include NBC’s Chase and ABC’s FlashForward, joined Walking Dead as a producer in Season 2 and was promoted to supervising producer for the current third season. He has penned five Dead episodes, including this season’s ‘Hounded.’”

Sounds like Gimple’s got plenty of experience with fast-moving ensemble shows, but the question remains as to how long he’ll last. So far, The Walking Dead’s showrunners have had the life expectancy of a Spinal Tap Drummer seeing as how this is the third showrunner in roughly as many seasons, so only time will tell if this change will stick.

Being Human 3-1: Bearding Human

Being Human is back and off to a monstrously good start! Last night on Syfy the season three premiere, “It’s a Shame About Ray”, aired, leaving us pondering one thing: is it really a shame about Ray? Read the recap to find out. Season two ended on huge cliffhangers for all three of our favorite plucky supernatural peeps, but this episode answers all questions and then some. This was a great episode of Being Human, with plenty of the character interaction we’ve come to know and love, as well as some nice, subtle looks into the trio, particularly Aidan’s fear of death, and Josh’s wariness of lobsters.

The vamp (Sam Witwer), the wolf (Sam Huntington), and the ghost (Meagan Rath).

Here’s your recap:

The episode opens fifteen months after the finale of season two, with Josh, Aidan, and Sally sitting around the kitchen busting each other’s chops in classic Being Human style. They chit-chat about lobster cooking/killing techniques for a while before the conversation takes a turn for the grim, and the topic of death comes up. Aidan slips into a trance-like state, chanting “I’m not going to die” repeatedly before it’s revealed that he’s still buried alive in a coffin, as he was at the end of season two.

The gang welcomes a new character to the show: Aiden’s beard.

Nora and Josh have been trying to find someone who can help bring Sally back from limbo for almost a year. While visiting a psychic, the outcome of the woodland scuffle is finally revealed: Nora shot Ray, but didn’t kill him. He started pounding on her, so Josh finished him off, Killer Croc-style, by bashing his head in with a really big rock. Now that Ray’s dead, are Josh and Nora cured? Yes and no. At the next full moon, Josh doesn’t turn into a wolf, but Nora does. Josh is cured! I guess that’s a point for it not being such a shame about Ray after all. What will J-man do now that he doesn’t have to spend half his time locking himself up and trying not to eat people?

Anyway, the first psychic couldn’t help bring Sally back, so they move on to the next one, and the next one, until they finally find a witch lady who can help them for a fair price of $2000. Oh yeah, and she also needs a human heart of someone they killed. Hmmm, maybe she should have mentioned that first? However, Josh and Nora are in luck, seeing as how they killed old Ray a while back so they dig him up and cut out his not-so-fresh heart (another point for it not being a shame about Ray). Upon delivery, Witchy-poo reveals that bringing Sally back from limbo means bringing her back from the dead! This sends Team Norosh on yet another digging expedition, this time for Sally’s body. Man, there’s a lot of exhuming this episode. Anyway, once Sally’s been recovered they bring her in for a good old fashioned revival.

Witchy-poo explains that Sally won’t be human, but never says exactly what she’ll be. She only states that she absolutely cannot have any reunions with people of her past. Uh, guys? When people get vague, that tends to mean that there’s trouble a-brewin’.

In limbo, Sally has been repeating the same cycle over and over: she keeps meeting up with Stevie and Nick and trying to get into her house, but every time they do the door is locked. Eventually they make it through. But what’s on the other side?

Sally’s decayed body, that’s what. Norosh and Witchy-poo finish the ritual and Sally’s body starts breathing. They take her home, where she revives and gets boo-ti-ful, and she starts whispering (I imagine being dead for a few years will make a gal’s throat pretty parched) that Stevie and Nick came with her. So where are they? Are they trapped in their respective coffins? Is Team Norosh going to have to do more gravedigging?

Meanwhile, Aidan gets freed from his coffin by a guy looking to drain his blood and sell it. An Amish Brother vampire swipes him from the human, hoping that Aidan’s blood can cure the vampire flu that’s been decimating their species. Turns out that not even the undead can fight the flu. Brother Vamp explains that Mother and most of their brothers are dead, then chows down on Aidan’s blood.

You know when a bad time to turn to dust is? When you’re driving. Aidan is not the cure Brother Vamp hoped he was, and he dusts while driving, leaving the van to crash into a pole. Aidan lays on the side of the road, bleeding, weary, and bearded, and debates whether or not to step through death’s door. After a few seconds, he decides to fight it to the last breath, chanting “I am not going to die.”

Finally, there’s one last shot of Witchy-poo going into the woods looking for Ray’s body with some kind of magic potion. I smell trouble with this chick.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Cozy with Harry Knowles and Talks Expendables 3, TEN, and The Tomb

arnold-schwarzenegger-launching-book-total-recall-01

At a screening of The Last Stand in Austin, TX, Ain’t It Cool News creator, Harry Knowles, sat down with Arnold Schwarzenegger and his co-star, Johnny Knoxville, for a little Q&A. Arnold talked a little bit about his upcoming films, and this dude has been busy. He’s barely finished filming on The Tomb, co-starring Sylvester Stallone, and TEN, but is already talking about Expendables 3. In fact, they were in the middle of filming the second Expendables when Sly talked to Arnold about a third installment. I approve of this 100%! Keep the action films coming boys! Watch what Arnold has to say about these three films.

Robopocalypse Apocalyzed; Jurassic Park 4 Finds a Way

official-jurassic-park-4-to-be-released-in-2014

Steven Spielberg announced back in 2011 that he had a green light for a fourth installment to Jurassic Park, but, at the time, he was busy working on other films, one of which was a science fiction film, Robopocalypse, based on the novel of the same name. EOnline reports that Robopocalypse has been put to rest,  and the only robot apocalypse we’re likely to be seeing anytime soon is the real thing. However, out of Robopocalypse’s death, a new life shall be born called Jurassic Park 4. Apparently, putting the robot film on hold “indefinitely” has freed up some time for Mr. Spielberg who has decided to move on the next Jurassic ParkIt will be filmed in 3-D and has already been given a release date of June 13, 2014. I’m pretty pumped to potentially see dinos flying out of the screen at me, and after hearing the crazy ideas batted around for this fourth one (including cyborg dinosaurs), I’m cautiously optimistic.
