ActionFest 2012 bestowed the first Chick Norris Award upon Haywire star Gina Carano. Gina started as an MMA fighter and moved onto the big screen to kick more ass in films like Haywire and the upcoming In the Blood. You know the Action Flick Chick had to talk to this awesome woman. Check out the Chick’s interview with her at MTV.com.

She spoke of that basket-brawl/1st fight before. She followed up the attack on the girl but unlike her overhand-right, her gound & pound was far from natural. She said she “started like bonking her on the head” (making a weird hammer-fist motion) 😀
Its so refreshing to not only see a non-thin, lack of suspending disbelief, female, action star (I still luv you, Angelina & Zoe Saldana) but one that is not heavily doubled and cam trick’d. (I still luv you, Scarjo)I think the number of quick cuts, frenetic cam movement and instances of a poorly obscured stunt-double should be base criteria in reviewing action.
Whoever gets the Chick Norris Award next year will be a severe drop down from Miss Carano. Her action scenes will only get better in terms of her ability and getting to throw down w/ non-HollyWood top stars. i.e They’ll be apt to not only “fight” more like Gina but also take hits like a Thai stunt team, well not exactly like them 🙂
