Interview: Barry Bostwick (Spin City, Some Guy Who Kills People, The Rocky Horror Picture Show)

Hey! Come see me at Dallas Comic Con (DCC) next weekend (August 27-28)!!!! I will be prowling the halls again this year seeing what kind of trouble I can stir up. In the meantime, let’s revisit what I did last year at DCC. Last August at DCC I was busy filming a segment for G4TV’s Attack of the Show!, interviewing actors and fans and…well anyone who would say something when I point a camera at them, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of smaller conventions. One of the guests I interviewed was Barry Bostwick, who I know best from his role  as the Mayor in Michael J. Fox’s sitcom, Spin City, even though he first achieved fame as Brad in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. You can check out all the other interviews I did last year on my YouTube account. There are interviews with the Zombie Wranglers, Steve Niles (author of 30 Days of Night), cosplayers, and more. We didn’t post this video for a while because the sound is pretty bad, but you can now read the edited transcript below.

AFC: How many conventions have you been to?

BB: I’ve really only been to about three, I think. This is my third. I’ve been to a big one in Parsippany, New Jersey, and this one and then one in Burbank, California. And this is my first Comic-Con, you know? Fascinating to see all the artists and this and that. There’s so few celebrities at these kinds of events while at the other, bigger events, there’s a hundred or sixty or something. Particularly the one in Burbank that I went to, it was just packed with people. Lana Turner, I think, was just down the way from me. It’s just interesting to see those people, you know?

AFC: Yeah. So what do you find are some of the advantages of coming to a smaller convention like Dallas Comic-Con?

BB: You have more time to talk to the people, and I find that the fans are really interesting, fascinating folks. They always tell me something about myself that I didn’t know. They’ll mention something about some movie I was in, “Remember when you said…” I’ll go, “Really? I said that?” So that’s what I like.

AFC: So you actually learn a little bit about yourself? (laughs)

BB: Constantly, you know, the fans are better at it than me, I tell ya.

AFC: What projects are you working on right now?

BB: Well, I just finished a Ghost Whisperer episode and I’m doing an episode next week of ‘Til Death, the Brad Garrett thing. I’ve done the Hannah Montana movie and a bunch of small features this last year that I can’t remember the name of at the moment. About three or four of them, so look for ‘em.

AFC: All right, well, thank you so much!
