Synopses
EL MARIACHI: All he wants is to be is a mariachi, like his father, his grandfather and his great grandfather before him. But the town he thinks will bring him luck brings only a curse of deadly mistaken identity.Forced to trade his guitar for a gun, the mariachi is playing for his life in this critically-acclaimed film debut from director Robert Rodriguez. Financed with earnings from a month-long stay in a research hospital, this astonishing action adventure was shot with no second takes, using borrowed equipment and a talented cast of unknowns. The riveting result is a wild bullet-dodging ride through aworld of bandido violence, from the suspense of the opening shoot-out to the tragedy of the unexpected conclusion. With little more than a great story and a lot of heart, Rodriguez has created pure movie pleasure, setting new standards for independent filmmaking, and establishing himself as an unquestionable talent. “An enormously entertaining movie.” (Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES)
DESPERADO: Antonio Banderas, Joaquim De Almeida, Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin, Steve Buscemi and Quentin Tarantino star in this stylish shoot-’em-up described as a south-of-the-border Pulp Fiction. Director Robert Rodriguez follows up his legendary debut film, El Mariachi, with this sexy sequel about a mysterious guitar player (Banderas) searching for vengeance against the men who murdered his girlfriend.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO: Leaping back into action, gun-slinging, guitar-toting hero “El Mariachi” is back in town in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO, as director Robert Rodriguez delivers the epic final chapter of his pulp Western trilogy. Starring Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, Eva Mendes, Enrique Iglesias and Willem Dafoe ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO is a full-frontal assault.

This would be awesome to win! I really like Rodriguez’s style and the crazy things he tries to do. Especially the 10 minute film school features.
The trilogy is a great way to see how Robert Rodriguez evolved as a director from young and full of tricks to young and having a firm handle on how to direct with money and technology, yet still tell a fun story.
Have you ever read his “how to” book on guerrilla film making? It’s a fun collection of war stories in indie film making – but I have to admit – I learned more about guerrilla film from Bruce Campbell’s “If Chins Could Kill”
i always wanted to see these. have heard so much great stuff about them. and have enjoyed all the other Rodriguez films. would love the chance to see these films in high definition.
have a great new year!
El Mariachi wasn’t the only victim of mistaken identity. He thought Salma Hayek was the Action Flick Chick!

Having seen Robert Rodriguez’s 10 Minute Cooking School on the Grindhouse blu ray disc, it makes me wonder if he brews his own Chango beer. I’d actually like to try some of that beer, despite it’s having been described as tasting like piss lol
Great to hear! Robert Rodriguez is such an inspiration for all aspiring filmmakers. I really enjoyed his book “Rebel Without A Crew.” He gives very good, solid advice for those just starting out and shares his experience in his journey in filmmaking. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
My mouth dropped open. I didn’t know about the first movie, and I LOVE Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico!!!!
oh man, El Mariachi is one of my favorite movies. Love that low budget action feel. For anyone that really loves the movie, check out Robert Rodriguez’s “Rebel Without a Crew.” It is basically the diary he kept while making the movie and is very insightful about low budget film making.
