Foster is a new comic created, written, and colored by Brian Buccellato (The Flash) and drawn by Noel Tuazon. So far it’s off to a great start! The story, set in a world where supernatural creatures not only exist, but are on distinctly unfriendly terms with humans, pulled me in immediately. As a man who has survived the horrors of war and now spends his days just trying to get by with the help of a little (or a lot) of alcohol, Foster makes for a superbly interesting lead character.
In the first issue, Foster discovers that his neighbor has disappeared for several days, leaving her 6 year old son behind to fend for himself. He then inadvertently becomes the kid’s care taker right as these supernatural creatures decide they want the boy. The story is refreshingly new- it’s not often you see a lead male character getting saddled with a kid that isn’t his – and ends with a great “wtf” moment that leaves you hungry for issue #2.
Available now are the convention special copies which is signed by Buccellato and numbered (500 only). It’s available on his website,www.brianbooch.com, for order or digital download, and as a special bonus the hard copy has a sketch back cover that Buccellato has graciously said he will do a free sketch on. You can also purchase the comic from Buccellato himself during any of the numerous conventions he’ll be at, so check his site to see if he’ll be at any of your faves!
