Before I Self Destruct is an independent film written and directed by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. 50 Cent actually stars in this film along with Clifton Powell, Sasha Delvalle and a young Elijah Williams. Before I Self Destruct is about Clarence (Curtis Jackson) whose mother is shot and killed, leaving Clarence to take care of himself and his younger brother. He got fired from his job and an eviction notice so he takes the first job offer he gets in order to survive…killing people for money.
It is well known that 50 Cent is no stranger to dangerous activities. Being born in Queens of New York City, he started dealing drugs at the ripe old age of 12 after his mother was murdered and he went to live with his grandparents. Hmmm, maybe he was drawing on his own experiences when he wrote this film? Clarence gets shot in the movie, and I think…I think 50 Cent is no stranger to that either, having been shot 9 times and yet still survived. So when I ask myself, “Who would be a good person to make a movie about a young man’s hard life and resorting to any means to earn a few dollars in order to survive?” I think 50 Cent is a pretty darn good choice. 50 Cent is able to portray the harsh realities of life in the hood through this film. You can just tell when a movie maker tries to make a movie they know nothing about, like a writer/director who had a gold plated pacifier trying to make a movie about the hood, it just turns out retarded. You don’t get that with this movie.
50 Cent stuck to what he knew and it made for a gritty, gripping movie. It does give you some action with guns and some action “in the bedroom.” Check out the trailer.
This is the Action Flick Chick, and you’ve just been kicked in the ass!
