The biggest surprise at ActionFest 2011 was a little film called A Lonely Place to Die. This not-yet-released film bagged two awards during its world premier at ActionFest, Best Film and Best Director- Julian Gilbey. I agree 100% with that outcome, maybe because I was one of the jurors making the decision.
A Lonely Place to Die is about five mountaineers are on a hiking journey in the Scottish Highlands when they hear a faint noise. Upon further investigation, they discover a young Serbian girl who had been buried alive in a small chamber with only a breathing pipe sticking above ground. After digging the child out, they discover the kidnappers are hot on their trail. They must put their rock climbing skills to the ultimate test to get the girl and themselves to the nearest town before the kidnappers get them. DUM DUM DUM!
I went in not knowing a thing about A Lonely Place to Die and expected it to be rather boring. Instead it blew me away with its beautiful scenery and the tense, slow-burning style of plot and action. It takes a bit to get to the action, but once it does the rest of the film really picks up to make up for the sluggish beginning, which isn’t even much of a problem because of the film’s gorgeous scenery and interesting plot.
Scheduled to come out in the United Kingdom in October 2011, I highly recommend giving A Lonely Place to Die a chance.
Action Rating: 4 Lonely Places to Die, out of 5.
Beware! The trailer does spoil a few things. Watch at own risk.
This is the Action Flick Chick, and you’ve just been kicked in the ass!
