Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)! Go Team America!

Go Team America! Captain America: The First Avenger is one film that will get your patriotism boiling! Set in 1942 during World War II (otherwise known WWII or World War Awesome), the men of America are called upon to save their country by enlisting in the military to go kick Nazi butt. Little did they know that a bigger and more powerful foe by the name of Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) is building a super powered army to take over the world. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), a thin, weak man, isn’t allowed to join the army because of his medical problems. Steve’s feeling pretty sour about himself until he gets chosen for a special military project create a super powered soldier of their own. Now that Steve’s all powered up with some red-white-and-blue superpowers, he must lead the United States in the battle against Red Skull!

Captain America did it right all the way down to the tiniest details – everything from Chris Evans terrific job of portraying the humble, awkward, and altruistic sides of Steve Rogers all the way to Bucky (Sebastian Stan) having the slightest bit of envy in his voice over Steve Rogers’ new found power and respect.. The story flowed well, explaining things all the while keeping it moving so that it didn’t get boring for those who already knew what was going on. Rogers’ personal story and growth was relatable and compelling. Steve is a likable character who pulls you in and has you loving him before you even know it.

One of the best aspects of the film was that the female character, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), was truly an empowering character. She in no shape, form, or fashion becomes a hostage or liability and actually saves Captain America a few times. She was a strong female who was excellent with a gun, hitting just about everything she shot at! Finally! We get a female who isn’t a hostage!

The action takes a LONG time to start, but once it does, it is high quality awesomeness! Captain America has lots of explosions, lots of chase scenes, and some death scenes that make you cringe. It hit all the must-haves in my book.

Captain America has all the ingredients that make up a great superhero film. Watch it now! Nobody messes with the United States! Go Captain America! U-S-A! U-S-A!

Action Rating: 4 Dancing Captain Americas, out of 5!

I liked it too, there were only a few glaring CGI moments, unlike the cartoonish Green Lantern film. I am still torn though, is Evans Human Torch or Cap?

I loved it… Until the last five minutes. It felt as though they filmed that bit for the sequence after the trailers. But then decided to stick it in the movie and do a little teaser fot he Avengers film. It just felt out of place and kind of cheapened the movie for me, turning it into a launching pad for Avengers. I’ll buy it, but when I watch it at home, I’ll end it when the kid is running across the street with the garbage can lid painted like Cap’s shield.
