May Mega Mayhem: Mega Man 5

Day #3: Mega Man 5

General Thoughts: I picked this game because I have never played a Mega Man game and they’re infamous for being wankers to the player. I can now testify that the previous statement is in fact true.  Mega Man 5 is for the NES and it really has simple controls and simple plot. However, it has been the most frustrating and infuriating game, and yet most addicting game I have played to this day. Why? Because it seems like it should be easy and then you die. Repeatedly. You learn from your last mistake only to have something new kill you right after that. The frustrating part is how fast it pulled me in. I kept wanting to try one more time. I kept thinking, “I can do better than that. Just one more time. Just one more time.” So I kept playing, and dying until finally I had to make myself put down the controller and back away from the TV. Of course, a few days down the road after I’ve forgotten the anguish it caused me, I know I’m going to pick up the controller and try again, because I hate losing. Overall, I think these games are NOT noob friendly, but they do provide a great challenge to anyone willing to accept it.

31 Minutes of Play: I started with Stone Man. It didn’t take long before I got tired of dying and moved on to Napalm Man where I repeatedly got eaten by tigers. I did finally make past them (screw you tigers!) only to be tricked by what I thought was a red horse (robot dog). When I summoned the dog it landed on some spikes. Being new at the game, for some reason I thought I could jump on the dog and not get hurt by the spikes. Well, I was wrong and jumped wrong and I died. So I changed levels. I went on to play Star Man and Gravity Man. I got the farthest in these levels but never did I ever make it to a boss. How the hell am I supposed to know which hole I can jump down and which hole will kill me?!?

Stupid Tigers!

Craziest Moment while Playing: I don’t know which one to pick there was so much fun going on (sarcasm). Was it the time I got donkey punched by a tiger in Napalm Man level, or the time I got donkey punched by gravity in Gravity Man level, or the time I got donkey punched by the hard hats in Stone Man level? I’ll leave this one up to the readers.

Fun Rating: 2 ½ Jumping Red Horses that are Actually Robot Dogs, out of 5!

Cool review! I hate it when I jump wrong and end up dead. It’s so cruel. I’ll have to play this though. Sounds fun!
