- Red Heat is dedicated to its stunt coordinator, Bennie E. Dobbins, who died of a heart attack on the set while staging the snow fight scene in Vienna.
- Jim Morrison’s (lead singer for The Doors) name and signature appear above Ivan Danko’s (Schwarzenegger) name in the hotel guest book.
- There’s a scene where Ridzik (James Belushi) is showing Danko (Schwarzenegger) different kinds of police reports. The camera shows the title of the report and it reads: “Worthless Document Case Report/ Chicago Police.” Hmmm, I think someone doesn’t like the paperwork.
- The actors did their homework for Red Heat. Schwarzenegger spent three months learning to speak Russian, and Belushi spent two weeks working at a Chicago police district headquarters.
- Director and producer, Walter Hill, thought Schwarzenegger was too muscular and asked him to lose 10 lbs; however, he asked Belushi to gain 10 lbs.
- Two hundred real inmates were used as extras for the prison scene.
