Wizard World Austin: Interview with the Cast of The Human Centipede!

At Wizard World Austin Comic Con this year, I was pleased to be able to talk to Ashley C. Williams, Ashlynn Yennie, Akihiro Kitamura, the stars of The Human Centipede. This film is…interesting, to say the least. For those of you who don’t know, The Human Centipede is about three people who are kidnapped and then sewn together. They aren’t sewn together in a three-headed person kind of way, but an ass to mouth kind of way. Yeah, when it comes to this family film, I just had to ask some questions.

AFC: My biggest curiosity is did you know what you were getting into going into the movie?

(Everyone laughs) Ashlynn: Oh definitely. We auditioned for it just like any other movie you would audition for. They gave us a synopsis of the film, and we all read it. We [her and Ashley] didn’t have quite the same response Aki [Akihiro] had but…yeah. (laughs)

Ashley: We asked a lot of questions.

Ashlynn: We asked a lot of questions and…decided to do it.

Akihiro: Tom Six, the director, asked me to audition through Skype. This was after they already finished casting. He said, “Hey, a beautiful girl’s face is going to be attached to your ass.” And I said, “Yeah, I want to do it! I’d love to do it, you’re a genius!” And that’s how I got the part.

Note: The way he said that is so funny I just had to include the clip below.

Ashlynn: That’s exactly what we [her and Ashley] said too. (laughing)

Ashley: A beautiful Japanese man attached to us…

Akihiro: …ass to mouth.

AFC: What were the filming conditions like?

Ashlynn: They were so great.

Ashley: They took care of us really really well. On the first days we started shooting, it was a little uncomfortable because we didn’t know what to expect.

Ashlynn: Neither did the crew.

Ashley: Yeah, the crew had no idea.

Ashlynn: Our costume mistress had no idea! She thought it was a suit that we would be wearing. She asked us at one point, “What does your suit look like?” And we were like, “What are you talking about?” She said, “The centipede suit?” I said, “What? It’s like…gauze!” So the crew was even shocked a little bit when we started filming, but we were taken care of very well.

I asked them about sequel, The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence), that is coming out sometime in 2011. They weren’t able to say which of them might show up in the sequel but Ashley did say that is would be a 12-person chain this time. Are you ready for that kind of family fun?

The only question that I would have asked would be, “When the 3 of you pose for pictures together is it written in to your contract that you have to pose in the order that you were sewn together?”

I still have yet to see this. In my Netflix queue. Perhaps I’ll watch this tonight.
