Warriors of Stand-Up Comedy: Kate Micucci of Garfunkel and Oates (with G&O Tickets Giveaway, DVDs Too)

Comedy can be lethal. Stand-up comics whose acts go over well “killed tonight” or “really slayed ’em” because their audiences “died laughing.”

In the G4TV Women of the Web special in which Action Flick Chick Katrina Hill was announced as the winner of the Next Woman of the Web competition, G4 looked at 15 other women with online presence, including three women of stand-up comedy. And the top ranked comic featured was ukulele wielder Kate Micucci of the comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates. Kate’s TV credits include appearances in some of Katrina’s favorite sitcoms, Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother.

To launch this series of occasional features on comedic killers, we’re giving away tickets to see Garfunkel and Oates (Kate with her stand-up partner Riki Lindhome) at the club Comix in New York City. (Thanks, Comix!)

Showtimes: March 19th at 8 and 10:30; March 20th at 8 and 10:30
Showplace: Comix. New York City. http://www.comixny.com

Prizes:
2 tickets to the first person to answer all 3 Contest Questions correctly.
* winner: Hakeem Lawrence
2 tickets to a random person who correctly answers all 3 after that.
* winner: Maribel @latina_sweetie
Action/thriller movie DVD for randomly chosen person who retweets @actionchick’s link to promote this giveaway.
* winner: @awakeningaimee
Note: If I don’t hear back from the random ticket winner before Monday, I’ll need to roll for someone else to win those tickets so they’ll have time to plan for the following weekend.

Value:
$45.00 would be the advance sales price for a pair of tickets.
We haven’t looked up the DVD value.

Obviously you need to be in New York on one of those dates to use the tickets. Winners will transport themselves and will be responsible for 2-drink minimums. If you won’t be around the Big Apple at the time, maybe you know someone who will. If not, you might win a DVD by helping promote this giveaway which, in turn, helps us get word of it to people who can use the tickets. The DVDs have absolutely nothing to do with stand-up comedy but would certainly be appropriate for fans of this site.

The Contest Questions:
1. Is Kate the Garfunkel half of the duo or is she Oates?
2. Where do the names Garfunkel and Oates come from?
3. Other than the TV shows already mentioned above, name any TV show in which the Garfunkel and Oates duo or just Kate Micucci has appeared.

Answer as comments in response to this blog post. Answers will be held in moderation until some time after midnight next Saturday night/Sunday morning. On Sunday we’ll reveal the winners.

Addendum: Mere hours after we posted this, Kate and Riki kicked some more butt. For International Women’s Day today, comedy.com listed “12 Funniest Comediennes You Should Know” and ranked Garfunkel and Oates #1.

  1. 1. Is Kate the Garfunkel half of the duo or is she Oates?

    the Oates half

    2. Where do the names Garfunkel and Oates come from?

from the duos Simon & Garfunkel and Hall & Oates

    3. Other than the TV shows already mentioned above, name any TV show in which the Garfunkel and Oates duo or just Kate Micucci has appeared.

    Til’ Death

  2. Evan says:

    1. oats
    2. hall and oats/ simon and garfunkle
    3. malcom in the middle

  3. Gerry M. says:

    1. Kate is the “Oates” of Garfunkel and Oates.
    2. Garfunkel and Oates refer to the “also-ran’s” or second place members of Simon & Garfunkel, and Hall and Hall & Oates.
    3. Garfunkel and Oates have been on the Jay Leno show this past Christmas where they preformed a song about year end letters people send out. Kate has been on How I Met Your Mother, Malcolm In The Middle, Rules of Engagement, Cory In The House, Scrubs, and can currently be seen on the Fox series ‘Till Death.

  4. Kate would be the Oates half of G&O because of her matching dark hair and moustache (her joke not mine)

Garfunkel and Oates are the lesser halves (at least fame wise) of perhaps the two greatest duos ever to record a song.

Kate Micucci appeared for a good portion of the ill fated Seth Green vehicle Four Kings (which is probably more famous for being mentioned in an episode of Entourage than for actually being on TV).

The duo appeared on the Jay Leno show performing their song “Year End Letter”

    Tickets please!

  5. Rudy says:

    Kate’s so funny!!

  6. Dave B says:

  8. Brittany Stock says:

    1. Kate is Oates.
    2. The names come from two famous duos–Hall and Oates and Simon and Garfunkel, they picked the more “unsung heroes” of the two to create their name.
    3. Riki Lindhome was on an episode of Criminal Minds, and Kate Micucci has been on Malcom in the Middle.

  9. Andrew Yu says:

She is Oates. The band gets their name from “two famous rock-and-roll second bananas”, Art Garfunkel and John Oates. She was also on til death.

  10. Andrew Hersch says:

    1) Kate is Oates
    2) The names come from Simon and Garfunkel and Hall and Oates (aka the 2nd fiddle of each group)
    3) Kate was on Malcolm in the Middle

  11. Andrew Yu says:

  13. Anne says:

    1. Kate is Oates
    2. Art Garfukel from Simon and Garfunkel and John Oates from Hall and Oates (which, when I was a kid, I thought was Haulin’ Oats)
    3. Riki Lindhome, who is Garfunkel, played Sadie in the remake of Last House on the Left. Which I guess is technically a movie, but since I watched it SPECIFICALLY to see her, I think it rates a mention. Riki was on the Big Bang Theory and Pushing Daisies. Kate was on two episodes of Cory in the House, which I am so depressed that I saw on a day I was home sick.

  14. yay I won! what do I do now? are the tickets going to be sent to me via email or will they be at the club?
