Transformers 4 Rolling Without Optimus Prime?

Transformers 4 is in the works; and, even though it has a distant 2014 release date, it’s already creating a buzz amongst fans. TFW2005 reports the info Hasbro representatives said about the  upcoming sequel- including an all new cast of not just new humans, but Transformers as well, due partly because the toy sales were not up to par after Transformers 3: “Regarding toy sales… it’s because of same characters in all three movies. This is why Transformers 4 will have a new cast of [robot] characters and it will be a story revolving around these new characters.”

No Optimus Prime or Megatron? Sure, because getting rid of your best Transformers so you can sell new toys worked great in the ’80s animated Transformers flick – oh wait, no it didn’t. it made legions of kids cry. All brands go through this “freshening up” phase to keep products moving, but as a fan of the robots from Transformers, I’m a little hesitant to see how this plays out. Right now I’ll keep an open mind, but what about you? Is this going to suck energon or recharge the franchise?

To be fair, the live-action Optimus was drifting further and further from the original character concept, so I’m really not surprised by this move. Call me morbidly curious, but my interest lies more in seeing just how deeper these people can dig themselves.

I have been disappointed with this franchise since the beginning. I was hoping for a human cast change though not a robot cast change. Maybe a better script too…
