The Walking Dead Episode 5 Review! “Wildfire”

The second to last episode of The Walking Dead television series’ first season, “Wildfire,” has aired and it didn’t even compare to the previous episode as far as action goes. There was essentially none; however, there were some very important zombie issues that came up this episode, calling into question everyone’s humanity.

Spoiler Alert!

Likes: Seeing an actual change from dead person to zombie, the look Dale gave Shane when he was pointing the gun at Rick, the issue of what to do if one of your group is bitten, Carol smashing Ed’s head to pieces, then the look Daryl gave her as she was going to town on his head, the move out of their camp site and to somewhere new.

Dislikes: Hardly any zombie action, very slow pace, not enough Glenn.

So what happens?

Lori (Sarah Wayne Callie) and Andrea (Laurie Holden) don't quite agree on when to lead the dead go.

Lori (Sarah Wayne Callie) and Andrea (Laurie Holden) have different views on when to let the dead go.

The whole group has to deal with the aftermath of the zombie attacks from the last episode. Andrea mourns over her sister Amy’s death. As Andrea gives dead Amy the necklace she swiped from a store in a previous episode, Amy starts to twitch and opens her eyes. She’s a zombie! Andrea hugs her and then blows her brains out. Now that’s sisterly love!

Meanwhile, Daryl is going around taking a pick axe to all the dead’s heads. When he gets to Ed, Ed’s now widowed wife Carol says that she needs to do it. She then goes from sad to furious as she smashes Ed to bits.

They bury/burn the dead, find out that Jim’s been bitten, and decide to leave the camp and go to the CDC headquarters. Along the way, Jim’s condition worsens and he asks to be left behind. Everyone agrees and leaves Jim on the side of the road under a tree. They get to the CDC building only to find it barricaded. Rick knows there is someone inside and starts screaming like a madman to let them in. As they are walking away, the door opens and a bright light shines on the group. Find out the conclusion to The Walking Dead season 1 next Sunday on AMC!

Next week’s episode: “TS-19.” Rick and the group are allowed into the CDC by a strange doctor (Noah Emmerich – The Truman Show). But all is not what it seems in their newfound haven.

I completely agree with ur likes in the show. As u, I enjoyed some of the character moments (The look Daryl gave Carol when she was going off on Ed’s was priceless) but they dragged out the scene when Andrea mourns her sister Amy’s death. In fact the whole epi kind of dragged a bit. The sisters scene got me so agree after awhile…I mean how do you put your face down to a dead person to listen to them breath? How do u know when ppl turn they don’t just jump up & won’t bite ur face off? And seriously…if I get bit I would not want to be left on the side of the road like some piece of trash to be allowed to become one of the walking dead. Although it does remind me of that scene in Land of the Dead when John Leguizamo as Cholo tells Foxy after being bitten, “I always wanted to see how the other half lives.” No thanks for me…take my ass out LOL

Lastly I may get some grunts from this so let me prefix the following comment with how much I really like Andrew Lincoln and how I think he is doing a great job on this show. But alas… If I have to see Rick cry one more time on this show like a little bitch (seriously go back to see how many times he breaks down) or get all emotional talking to Morgan on his radio I am cutting him as leader of my caravan when the zombies come. Come on man, show some cohunes as a leader like u did facing the Latino’s. Just cause u have a sheriff hat doesn’t make u a leader. It’s bordering on the overacting side! (See end of episode).

As a side note in the next epi I think the crazy doctor is going to purposely infect someone to get a test subject that does not have necrotic flesh. Well those are my thoughts. Hit me back on Twitter if you read this or want to discuss more @Tweek_Robles
