The Walking Dead Episode 3 Review!

“Tell It to the Frogs”,episode 3 of The Walking Dead TV series, premiered Sunday night. The new episode brought us more zombies, more plot, and a new character! Norman Reedus has now joined the cast as Daryl Dixon, Merle Dixon’s (Michael Rooker) brother. You remember Merle, don’t you? He’s the guy that got left for dead in Atlanta! Unsurprisingly, Daryl didn’t take the news so well. Anyway, episode 3 plays on the old heart strings a lot between some families reuniting and some families getting torn apart. That’s one of the appealing things about the series, it has more time to explore and display the human emotions one would be going through in an actual zombie outbreak a little more than a film does. You can really connect with the characters on a personal level, empathize with them, and go along the journey with them. As great as that is, I would like to see some action as well! This is the only zombie TV series, after all. “Tell It to the Frogs” is more on the emotional, character developing side than it is the action side, which is fine. It has to be done, I guess. Still, it has been a great series so far.

Spoiler Alert! So what happens?

The group that escaped Atlanta arrives at the survivors’ camp outside the city where Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is reunited with his wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), and son, Carl (Chandler Riggs). The resume their marital relationship while Shane (Jon Bernthal) is dropped immediately by Lori. BURN! Then, being the great humanitarian that Rick is, he decides to go back to save Merle (whom they left handcuffed on a rooftop in Atlanta). He also is going back to get his bag of guns he dropped in the street when he first arrived in the city. Daryl, T-Dog (IronE Singleton), and Glen (Steven Yeun) accompany him. They reach the roof top without incident. All that is shown is a saw, a sawed off hand, the bloody handcuffs still dangling where they were left, and Daryl looking very upset and screaming.

Meanwhile, back at the camp, Lori tells Shane to stay away from her family. Another guy, Ed (Adam Minarovich), is found to be beating his wife and slaps her in front of a lot of people. Shane then beats Ed to a bloody pulp.

This is the Action Flick Chick, and you’ve just been kicked in the ass!

“Shane then beats Ed to a bloody pulp”

I don’t really feel you did that quite the justice it deserved…

For while the episode was, as you stated, more on the emotional and character development side — during that particular scene I was just waiting, waiting.. Is Shane so pissed at Lori that he’s going to say “Eh, they deserve it?” or is he going to take out his rage on Ed, who really, deserves worse than he actually gets.

And what he gets is one of the more satisfyingly meaty beat-downs I’ve seen on a show in a while. Drags him away from the girls like a puppy and then just lambastes him in the face over and over — the final finishing blow left Ed’s face looking like a bleeding version of one of the zombies.

I completely agree with u & if anyone wants to discuss this show or anything zombie, action, Sci-Fi, comics or anime hit me up on twitter also @Tweek_Robles 🙂 I love that they have a zombie series & it is great to have the time to develop characters so we can become personally invested in their well being so when they finally get torn up by zombies its both awesome & emotional. But they can’t forget we need to see more ZOMBIES in the zombie series. I can’t imagine how tough it may be on the productions budget to do this each week but you get what you put into it! On a side note I knew the moment Merle got handcuffed what was going to happen especially when the bag of tools got dumped over. On the upside I liked the car alarm idea from last epi & how true to what I would do in the recent epi, gut the car out for parts & gas. That’s smart zombie survival thinking! BTW…best weapon ever is crossbow. Fast accurate & u can reuse amo if there is time or make more arrows. Any way I am waiting for the asian guy to get killed prob in the next epi & I’m sure even though he is missing a hand, Merle is lurking around somewhere although neither me nor my bro can figure out how he would have gotten off the roof. Could it be the mystery helicopter? Oh & Norman Reddus ROCKED in the Boondock Saints (one of my all time FAV movies) so good to see him again. Well those are my thoughts LOL Chat with everyone soon on Titter @Tweek_Robles
