Which Star Wars Film Makes the Best Action Movie? (thanks to David Reddick, Nathan Hamill, and all who took part)

Slave Chick Leia by Nathan Hamill.

Not so long ago in a twitpic not too far away, Nathan Hamill introduced the first of several Star Wars/Action Flick Chick mash-ups. When @ActionChick commented on a different pic he’d put together (see “J2-H2”) featuring a droid-headed Jabba the Hut and Princess Leia in her famous “brass bikini,” Nathan turned around and created her the image that fulfilled many long-standing requests. For a long time, a number of people have been asking to see the Action Flick Chick in a Slave Leia outfit. Well, here it is. See http://twitpic.com/18zvww for the full-sized image.

Gun-toting Leia Chick by Nathan Hamill.

Nathan later followed that up with gun-wielding Episode 4 Leia Chick. The comparison is quite an honor considering that Princess Leia was the only Star Wars character to hit every target she ever shot at over the course of three movies, even if it sometimes took more than one shot. (We’re taking Carrie Fisher’s one on that one.)

Princess Leia vs. Action Flick Chick by David Reddick

David Reddick – who gave our heroine’s Action Chick avatar her first webcomic appearance via The Legend of Bill cameo not long before Katrina and crew debuted the weekly The Action Chick webcomic – saw @actionchick mention on twitter that she was trying to find a Princess Leia cartoon she’d seen drawn in his style. David promptly produced exactly that, one awesome image not only of Princess Leia but with Katrina’s yellow avatar as well  (“Sketchbook: Princess Leia vs. Action Flick Chick”). Notice that Leia herself looks part Carrie Fisher and part Katrina Hill.

So which Star Wars movie is the best action flick?

Our Chick asked that on Facebook and twitter

Episode 1: The Phantom Menace

Answers included every live action theatrical release except this one.

Episode 2: Attack of the Clones

Pikaroth: Looking strictly at action? Yes, here it comes: Attack of the Clones. Really no contest from the action POV.
SlickriptideTough call because none are full-out action all the time. Nod goes to least angst/most lightsabers. Best action movie would pretty much have to be Attack of the Clones
Sean Ewington: Theoretically, attack of the clones should be the best star wars action movie. Wait, did I read the question right?

Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith

carlwatkinsRevenge of the Sith
Sector2813revenge of the sith
A Quinn: damn interesting question…. Although EMPIRE is by far my fave movie of all time… Sith has way more action…u have the final battle over coruscant….exposition….exposition…then lightsaber battles, battles on kashyyk…order 66, battle of heroes…so yeah I’m thinking sith.
Veronica Dorkmaster: Hmm…Episope III and Episode II had the most action though I think Episode III was the most violent. Yay Star Wars!!
J. Seth Barnard: Episode III should get my vote just for the Yoda/Palpatine and Kenobi/Vader fight…but in the end, I’m voting Episode II: not because of the mass Jedi/droid fight, but because of the Kenobi-Anakin/Yoda vs Dooku duels and also because Padme shows she can hold her own.

Episode 4: A New Hope, the one originally called just Star Wars (1977)

wyldride: @actionchick The original Star Wars is probably the best for action. Others of the movies have more, but not better.

Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

rabbitinski: Absolutely ESB based on the set pieces alone. Add the dark underpinnings of the story for suspense. WIN!
twstdviewESB all the way!! and maybe to a certain extend Ep 3 for the battle scene bet Anakin-Obiwan
Ray Onativia: The Empire Strikes Back
trekladykim: The Empire Strikes Back is my choice for a good action film.

Episode 6: Return of the Jedi (1983)

Russell Allen: Empire is my favorite overall but Return of the Jedi had more action.
Greg Lemons: I’ve got to agree with Russell, and it kills me to say it, but Return of the Jedi. Its pretty much non stop from the Rancor fight all the way through the end. There are probably three slow parts. Intro Jabba stuff, Yoda dying, and Luke and Leia emofest 1983. The rest is pretty much action.
Gerardo Lopez-Castillo : Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi
Brian Solomon: Have to go with Return of the Jedi. Which is ironic, since it’s the weakest of the original trilogy.

One more live action film got mentioned – Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1985).

TheMovieGod: Battle for Endor with Drew Barrymore? Probably not, but Teek is a superhero to me.

And some answers didn’t settle on one specific Star Wars film as the single best action flick.

Neil Sarver: I calling foul on the JEDI votes. All of that quantity over quality and JEDI may have pound for pound more action than the preceding two, but it’s action is butt-numbingly dull. I think STAR WARS or ATTACK OF THE CLONES.
scottEweinberg: I think the original works pretty darn well as an action film. ESB also. Of the prequels, I dig the CLONES action.
ingodwetrystThat’s such a tough question. I’m tempted to say Return of the Jedi, though Empire Strikes Back is up there too.
Jeremy Hyler: Either return or revenge had strong action elements just one is classic and the other is less remembered to be cared for.
Jim Mack McGee: I am an original trilogy fan…but if we’re talking action it has to be Attack of the clones or Revenge of the Sith. although I think both movies had a lot of down time, they also had a lot of action scenes. Original trilogy Empire is my Fav but action its Jedi.
Nestor Roman Banda: Empire or Revenge.

Overall the winner appears to be Revenge of the Sith

I love the combination of Star Wars, Katrina Hill and David Reddick!! Now that’s a triology….a trilogy of awesomeness!!!!

  4. RussellMania says:

It helps if I can spell it right….Trilogy of Awesomeness….not trology!

  5. RussellMania says:

Damn it…I spelled my miss spelling wrong….I give up…you know what I am saying even if I don’t!!

  6. While Revenge of the Sith had the best action scene (the Kenobi / Vader fight) Attack of the Clones has the most “action” though I think out of all the films it is my least favorite, so there you go. You like action? I recommend http://www.filmcrave.com/list_genre_movie.php?genre=Action
