Spartacus: Vengeance Red Carpet!

The Starz original series Spartacus returns this week. Amelia Arender (words) and Elizabeth Ann (photos) covered its star-studded red carpet premiere for the Action Flick Chick.

Spartacus: Vengeance premiered at the Arclight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, and all the stars were there to support it. Everyone was very excited to share about Spartacus and why they love being a part of Starz’s hit show. Vengeance is about the vengeance that Spartacus and the rebels/gladiators have for the Romans, and the so-called vengeance that the Romans have for them. The new season promises to have just as much, or more, blood and combat as the previous seasons. We can all expect everyone’s character’s to fight for what they feel is just, and protect themselves and whom they fight for.

The action and combat scenes in Spartacus are vast and intense, and not exactly director Steven DeKnight’s favorite thing to film. “You would think filming action sequences (would be), but not my favorite thing to do. I love watching them!” Well, Mr. DeKnight, we do too, and that is why fans love “Spartacus.” Even Spartacus himself, Liam McIntyre, is a fan of the action sequences, but he couldn’t reveal his favorite death scene for the season; however, he urges us to “trust” him and that “it’s coming and you will know when it happens. It’s Awesome!” Liam did tell us his favorite fatality from the trailer was when Spartacus “cut a guy’s face off,” and I think we can all agree with Mr. McIntyre when he says, “That wins!”

Spartacus and the other manly gladiators aren’t the only ones who get in on the action this season, but the women offer quite a bit of the action to come. Katrina Law who plays Spartacus’ love interest, Mira, tells us that her character will “get her hands dirty, because everyone is on the run, and all the rebels have to fight, whether they want to or not. So, you’re gonna see a lot more fighting from people outside of the gladiators. The women have to fight for their lives…so yeah, you’re gonna see (Mira) fight.”

In Vengeance Naevia returns, but this time she is played by the lovely Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and she says she is “enjoying being able to put my own spin on Naevia. In the first season, you see her and she’s more of a girl. She’s young and naïve…and thinking this season they’re sort of striving to, well, she’s not a girl anymore. (She’s) been through some things that forced her to lose that naiveté and keep up the strength. It will be interesting.”

Spartacus has quite a lot to deal with this season, Claudius Glaber being one of them. He is ordered to stay hot on Spartacus’ trail and as Craig Parker (also known as Haldir from The Lord of the Rings) admits, “he’s dreadful and bitter” about being a “failure of a man, but he’s trying so hard..” Craig says that he “loves that” about Glaber, because “everyone feels like that wherever they are.” As Parker reveals that Glaber “gets some power and puts a few things in order”, so does Spartacus and the rebels, because ultimately this is about vengeance.

This season continues to surprise us in the most gruesome and beautiful way, and all the stars seemed completely thrilled to put the story out there. Bonnie Sveen, Chadara in season two, says that is something she loves about the show saying it’s “famous and infamous for its (spontaneity) and unpredictability…it has an incredibly unpredictable plot and you don’t know where it’s going.”

Everyone that is a part of Spartacus:Vengeance is completely kind and very humble. They all really want to see the show continue and are truly just excited to be a part of it, and that was evident through everyone’s interviews. Spartacus himself, Liam McIntyre felt very humble to be taking Andy Whitfield’s place, but I told him that he is an awesome Spartacus, to which he humbly replied, “Thank you, I appreciate that.”

Even Starship Troopers Casper Van Dien and its creator, Ed Neumeier, arrived to support. Ed (RoboCop writer) told us that MGM is gearing up for Robocop’s remake with Jose Padilla, and smirked at the fact that “they’re remaking all of my movies.” Further proof that everyone enjoys and supports Spartacus! Liam McIntyre also gave a big stamp of approval to Action Flick Chick! Thanks to Mr. McIntyre and the cast of Spartacus: Vengeance.
