Predators (2010)

Predators is one spine-rippingly fun movie! Eight people are dropped from airplanes onto a foreign planet. None of them remember anything about how they got there but realize that the one thing most of them have in common is their expertise in killing. They band together to hunt for the truth, only to find that they, in fact, are the ones being hunted. Uh-oh! Time to get out of the jungle ya they become fertilizer for the foliage!

Adrien Brody did a magnificent job being the bad ass, head leader Royce. He was buff and tough and I believed that he would rip my arm off and beat me over the head if I got on his bad side. Topher Grace (Edwin) wasn’t supposed to be a big tough guy so there’s no stretch of the imagination there. His character is just a helpless, wisecracking doctor and it worked well. One main difference between Predators and the original, Predator, was that this time around we actually get a strong female character that is part of the group, not as a hostage like the only female role in the original film. Alice Braga did a wonderful job representing us ladies. She was just as rough and ready as the others.

Predators is not as good as the original, of course, because it’s not brand new material so the novelty isn’t there; however, it serves as a splendid sequel. You get a new story line that was different enough to make you feel like it is its own movie, but was still similar to the format of the original film. It was gruesome and had some great action despite being primarily about hunting, which we all know isn’t the most action packed sport. The action wasn’t of the nonstop, shoot’em up, killing machine variety, but I guess that’s okay every now and then. The storyline was predictable which took away some of the intensity of the film but not all of it. Still, I loved the film because in the end, it’s all about the action baby! And you can’t go wrong with multiple predators!

Beware Spoilers Below!

Best Line: “I’m the one that got away, the one you don’t f*** with.”

Best Kill: I won’t say who, but one dude gets his spine ripped out of his body with his skull still attached to the end of it! Mmmm, mmmm, good!

Best Explosion: It turns out that there’s a traitor among the group of tough guys! :O Uh oh! Who could it be? Could it be the only guy who claims to be helpless and isn’t all buff? Edwin (Topher Grace) you weasel! So, Edwin the “doctor” turns all evil on the others and gets a quick stab through the throat as his reward, delivered handily by Mr. Royce. Royce then covers the not-dead-yet Edwin with grenades and when one of the predators turns Edwin over, they all detonate and kapoooy! Bye-bye doctor and predator. Kudos, Royce, for not letting a perfectly good traitor go to waste by just killing him straight up.

Action Rating: 3 ½ Predators, out of 5.

I agree. It isn’t anything new and won’t win any Oscars but it does what it says it will on the tin. It’s what fans wanted to see after the AvP debacle and I can’t wait to see the film again.

    will they do predators 2?
tho predators 2 would really be predator 6
