Don’t Believe the Buzzard: Wanted 2 Production Proceeds Minus Angelina Jolie

The Vulture stirred things up for the weekend with the report “Angelina Jolie Says No to Wanted 2, Killing the Sequel.” Despite the article’s lack of sources, it got people riled up with tweets, blogs, and screams as if the sequel’s death were a solid fact.”We’ve just heard the actress has pulled out of the planned Timur Bekmambetov-directed sequel at Universal, and the studio has pulled the plug rather than recast the film.”

They “just heard”? Heard from whom?! As the Action Flick Chick pointed out in a comment to Vulture (a critical comment which, as of this writing, appears to have been deleted or gotten stuck in moderation), it provided nothing to back that story up!

Today STV released an interview with Wanted creator Mark Millar who said the planned sequel will move along without her. Even if, by some chance, Universal pulled the plug on Wanted 2 without bothering to mention it to this man, the STV interview illustrates the need to check some facts before tweeting and bleating unsourced reports. Check some facts!

SPOILERS: The original 2008 film Wanted, loosely based on a comic book miniseries written by Mark Millar with art by J. G. Jones from Top Cow Productions, tells the story of Wesley Gibson (played by James McAvoy) who learns his father was the world’s greatest assassin and a brotherhood of assassins called the Fraternity want to recruit and train him to kill people that Fate has determined should die. In the end, every killer gets killed except for Wesley and his father’s weaponsmith (Terrence Stamp). The Fraternity’s leader Sloan (Morgan Freeman) and the woman who recruited Wesley into the Fraternity, Fox (Angelina Jolie), both die from gunshots to the head. So as you can see, the most logical progression of plot would not require the beloved Ms. Jolie anyway. Yeah, we know: What’s logic compared to the thought of a Wanted without Angelina’s bare tattooed backside?

I am so happy to know that “Wanted 2” will be made. Not sure how I feel about it without Jolie, but still excited the film will go on!

Once again – ACTIONCHICK not only has the goods but, more importantly, CORRECT information! What would we do without you? Let’s not find out *s*

  2. Karen says:

I have no desire to see the sequel without Jolie. She made the movie!

  3. Josh says:

I personally could care less about her being in the sequel. How did she make the movie again? She wasn’t in it all that much and didn’t have hardly any lines to boot. McAvoy made the film hands down!!. He’s a dope actor yet people still try and say he didn’t fit the character…well IMO he did to the tenth degree as he also did in Las King of Scotland…

If she were to be in the movie I honestly wouldn’t bother watching it. Mainly because SHE DIES!! And it’s not a soap opera
