Buffy the Vampire Slayer is awesome. Period. She has become one of the most legendary heroines of pop culture and has a legacy that reaches far beyond the TV show. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8, Joss Whedon and crew’s official comic book continuation of the Buffy TV series, ends this month with issue #40. After facing old enemies, revisiting old friends, training an army of Slayerettes while public anti-Slayer sentiment grows, and tugging on every loose thread left from her 7-season show, Buffy gets dealt the cruelest betrayal of all in “Last Gleaming, Part V.” The issue comes out today, January 19, timed to coincide with the Buffy Summers character’s 30th birthday. A Season 9 comic will begin soon.

Also out this month, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 Motion Comic collects the first 19 issues on Blu-ray/DVD combo from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Jeff Shuter, who directed the motion comic, discussed it with me during New York Comic Con.

press release

Based on the award-winning comic book series by Dark Horse Comics, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 8 delves deeper into the world of the vampire-killing legend, created by Joss Whedon.  This newest installment of the adrenaline-charged saga follows Buffy, now living in Scotland, as she teams up with hundreds of other slayers to save to world.  All 19 episodes will be available in a Blu-ray + DVD Combo January 4, 2011 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and will include limited edition Jo Chen packaging, as well as a collectible reprint of Dark Horse Comics’ first book in the series.

Jeff Shuter brings BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 8 to comic-book life in the groundbreaking action-comic form.  The truest form of character expression, the action-comic is created as a video translation of the comic book, and the action in each panel is brought to life through animation with voices and dialog instead of printed text.  Watch in comic form glory as Buffy and Xander lead thousands of newly activated slayers from across the globe in their fight against evil.

Synopsis
Following the destruction of the Hellmouth in the explosive finale of the television series, Buffy and her trusted friend Xander have relocated to a citadel in Scotland to oversee the thousands of newly activated slayers from across the globe.

Using their new home as command-central in their fight against evil, Buffy and her allies lead these new slayers as they take on vamps, zombies and now the U.S. government who declare, in the wake of Sunnydale’s destruction, that slayers are nothing more than international terrorists.
