Answers on Facebook:
·  Marq Piocos: Assassins and The Specialist are good ones, but #1 on my list – The Professional
· J. Seth Barnard: Agreed with Marq. The Professional.
· Brian Knox: I liked Dame Helen in RED. In fact, the entire “retired wetworks speciallist” plot made me smile.
· Mitchell Ivey: I liked Charles Bronson in “The Mechanic.”
· Harold Burman: Bourne trilogy and Long Kiss Goodnight. But the assassins stopped being assassins, a la memory loss, so not sure they count.
· Christoffer Andersson: Léon (or The professional, whatever title you’re accustomed to). Saw it the first time when I was 12 years old and since then I’ve had an undying crush on Natalie Portman
· Alex Langley: None. They’re all the same… Not really, but a lot of them are really, really similar.
· Jubei Yagyu: Lone Wolf and Cub…the original is the first and best Assassin as Protagonist film.
· Samuel F. Moultrie: My first pick The Professional all the way. Second – Raizo in Ninja Assassin.
· Kanu Digit: The Professional is great. Grosse Point Blank is actually surprisingly good and brings some decent action and violence and comedy. The Killer is a classic of course. John Woo at his height.

This whole discussion also led to an interesting bit of news from Troma filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman.

· Jeff Robinson – partialinfinity: @ActionChick Grosse Point Blank! 🙂
· Chad Elkinsratpack: @ActionChick Leon is def the best IMO. Other notables: Cusack from Grosse Pointe Blank, Travolta in Pulp Fiction, & Clooney in The American.

Comic-Con: Katrina with Lloyd. (He's the one on the right.)

· Katrina Hill – ActionChick: 3 of you picked Grosse Pointe Blank for best assassin-protagonist movie
· Lloyd Kaufman – lloydkaufman: @ActionChick Steven Pink (Grosse Point Blank) is writing Toxic Avenger remake.

  1. Lee says:

I know Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise crazy (as JoCo would say), but that crazy translated well to his role as ‘Vincent’ the travelling assassin. It is the only Tom Cruise movie on my ‘pull out and watch every so often’ list. If I recall correctly, we never get that hair-on-the-back-of-your-neck-raising Tom Cruise smile in that movie. You know the one.

On a side note, it was nice to watch a movie with firearms where I wasn’t facepalming all the way through it (like in The Mechanic, for example).

Gotta go with Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. I really love that movie, and he’s a great character.

  4. Lee says:

@Chris: Ah, crap. Good one. Or…wait, we might both have issues with the Protagonist part…crap again…

  6. Maldevane says:

There’s a scene in ‘Game of Death’ where Marcus Jones is shooting at a helicopter on a rooftop and then engages (who I think is Gary Daniel’s character) some guy in a gunfight: that scene was shot literally outside my window here at work (top of the Guardian Building).

Definitely want to see this just from all of the places in Detroit and all of the scenes shot/used from the Guardian building.
