5 Best Multiplayer Video Games to Play at a Party!

You’re having a party and/or a group of friends over, and sometimes you’ll reach the point in the evening where you feel like it’s either time to start robbing people, or time to break out the hard drugs. My solution: Bust out the video games!!!!!! Playing video games will keep your guests/friends interested, engaged, and awake! You have to pick the right games, however. One person playing Puzzle Quest for hours is not entertaining for everyone, especially if your guests/friends don’t really play video games in the first place. A few things to remember: pick multiplayer games (four people at a time is optimal), games easily picked up by non-gamers (there always seems to be at least one noob in every group), and games where plot progression doesn’t really matter so people can talk over the game or take turns and not worry about missing something.

Listed below are my favorite games to put on while “entertaining” guests. These games are a sure way to have fun! Just make sure you have enough controllers for four people.

5. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

This was created as an old school, side scrolling, beat ‘em up game for the Xbox or PS3. Up to four players can play and are able to pick between the main characters of the books/movie, Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Kim Pine, and Stephen Stills. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is great to put on when you have a lot of friends over who are fans of the books/film. The controls are fairly simple to pick up on for those who are not experienced gamers. It can be played causally; however, it’s best for a group who might play together often. The game is designed for you to level up your character and reach the end of the game together. So if you plan on having the same people over often, Scott Pilgrim is a good choice of entertainment.

4. Mario Party

Who doesn’t love handsome little Mario? Mario Party is a type of electronic board game where you roll dice, move spaces and then depending where you land, either play a mini game, battle another player, or gain/lose coins, and no matter what, somebody will probably end up screaming at somebody, which is half the fun. You battle each other for stars and coins to see who can get the most and claim victory over the whole game. It’s easy to pick up on and there is zero plot to worry about. It’s perfect for all levels of gamers.

3. Mario Kart

Whether it’s Double Dash, Mario Kart Wii, or old school Mario Kart 64, you can entertain your guests for hours with this one. What better way to take out your pent up anger for your boss or coworker than to hit them with a blue shell right before they cross the finish line and then zoom past them at the last second. Playing Mario Kart is also the only time when you won’t be frowned at for throwing bananas at people or on the road. Just be ready for some retaliatory real-life punches for those virtual bananas.

2 Rayman Raving Rabbids 2

These raving rabbids are hilarious to watch as well as play. Rayman Raving Rabbids is for the Wii so you can get all your guests to have fun while flailing around like goobers. You can also dress the rabbids in a lot of recognizable costumes like Ninja Turtles and Altair from Assassin’s Creed. Every mini game starts with instructions on how to play so that everyone stands a chance to win whether you’ve been playing games since you were in diapers or just picked up a controller.

1. Rock Band

This is a fantastic game to pull out at a party. Who wouldn’t want to be in a rock band? With Rock Band you can bang on a drum or throw out your best rock star dance moves while you belt out the lyrics to your favorite song! One of the best things about Rock Band is that it has four different levels of difficulty that can be chosen for each individual so that the more experienced players won’t get bored by playing at a beginning level and the beginners won’t get frustrated from failing miserably at the advanced levels. Even if you’ve never played video games, you would still be able to pick up on this game easily. Rock Band is not just fun to play but also fun to watch, people who are stuck sitting around waiting their turn they can still laugh at their friends jamming out and groove along to the music themselves. These games have a butt load of good songs to choose from, and you can also download any missing ones.
